Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for a recipe to make a lotion bar or cream with aloe, and other ingredients, that would be refreshing after a day in the sun and wind. I don't want to use any beeswax or soy in it or for it to be greasy and to just have a light fragrance appropriate for a man or woman.
I'm making it for a skiiing friend.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks for any suggestions.

You can use a basic recipe and substitute the water for aloe vera gel juice.
Add a cooling EO such as Lavender, Geranium, Lemon, Peppermint, Rose or Ylang Ylang.

For a lotion bar, start here...

1 part wax of your choice
1 part oils/soft butters of your choice
1 part firm butter of your choice

..and adjust to suit your personal taste.

If it's too firm, reduce the wax. If it is too soft, reduce the soft oils. You will just need to play with it until you like it, as we all have different taste.

Hi Tabitha and Catmehndi, :D
Thank you for your help.

I'm going to give the Aloe Vera Butter with a Candelilla Wax
a try.
.75 oz wt Candelilla Wax
1 oz wt White Cocoa Butter
.75 oz wt Shea Butter, Refined
.75 oz wt Aloe Vera Butter

How does this look?

Candelilla may not work...it's not a great emulsifier. It's mostly used to harden lipsticks and such.

Hi Catmehndi,
I read Candelilla could replace bees wax in a lotion bar recipe & I would only need to use half Candelilla Wax to replace the bees wax.

This will be an interesting experiment! I can always add some bees wax if I need to make the bar harder. Right?

Wish me luck! I will let you all know, how all this turns out!
It's exciting to try something new!
Thanks,
lily

It might take a couple of tries before you find out what works for you.
Be sure to write down exactly what goes in there; as you can always remelt you won't have to waste a thing as long as you keep track of what you're adding

Good luck and I'd love to see the result!

Hi dagmar88,
Yes, I could be doing a lot of melting!
Thanks for reminding me to write everything I do down.
Sometimes, I tell myself, "Oh I'll remember & I'll write it down later!"
I never do!

And remember also that it could take a few days to reach it's full hardness.

Why would an emulsifier be necessary n a lotion bar, Cat? Is it something to do with the aloe butter?

My bad - I didn't read the recipe well enough - I just caught the candelilla and knew that it was mostly used in lipsticks....guess I jumped the gun. Sorry!
