at what temp does alien brain happen--what temp does it start to volcano? I have uncovered it--looks like its ashy already. I checked the temps and it only seemed to go to around 140 don't have a clue what those white spot are either

Hi Marilyn, are you able to post the details of the recipe - this will make it easier to work out what has happened :)

Just looking at the picture you have supplied, the ash is following the swirl - that pattern tends to happen with higher water soaps.

A couple of people here were talking about alien brains when they've used a lot of Isopropyl alcohol - did you spray the tops of your soaps too?

I used 11oz lard-7oz co-8oz safflower-8.58 water (rounded up to 8.6)-3.85 lye. SB at 114degree oil and 117 lye. did thin trace. insulated with heating pad for awhile cuz the temp didn't go up past 113 when it got to 139 I turned the pad off. I did not spray this time cuz I don't seem to have luck with it anyway. I did run this thru the lye calculator. I did cover the mold with a wood cutting board and some towels--but I checked a few times and the highest temp was 139. and the soap is lavender/black and white colored also
