Hello Everyone. I'm very new at soap making and have a question. I've been told that silk roving is good to add to soap. I'm wondering what is best to use. Soy? There are different kinds. I'm making this for my baby grandaughter so I'm trying to be extra careful. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Jo,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "silk roving" as it's not a term I've heard before. It is my understanding and opinion that Castille is the gentlest soap (100%) Olive Oil. I use Tussah Silk Noil in my soap and it makes an amazing soap.

Good Luck....

silk in soap

Thank you Lindy for your reply..
I was beginning to think I was alone :). If you go to ebay and type in "silk roving", under crafts, ...you'll see lots of silk fiber including the one you mentioned to me. The castile soap was what I had in mind for my grandbaby...but just need to decide on a good recipe, which supplies...where to order, things like that. If I get the Tussah Silk Noil do I need to make sure it's unbleached? Or does that not matter. Thankss

I don't think it matters- mine is unbleached. For a recipe use any of the Lye calculators put in the amount of Olive Oil you're going to use and it will tell you how much lye and water to add.

Let us know how you make out and be sure to post pics...
