I began the batch on February 24th, which I recorded here:
https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/my-first-batch-zap.69338/#post-689575
Coconut 30%/Castor 5%/Olive 65%
26% lye (38% water)
8% superfat
It was not a success. Too much water, or too little lye, very soft, impatient new soaper, you name it...whatever. I think my biggest problem was my own impatience. If it were now, I would have just left the batter in the mold to harden/saponify, but whatever, I did not. I can't give scientific dates, but long story short, I ended up rebatching....
TWICE.
The first time it volcanoed. Oh well, my oven needed cleaning, but really, the website where I got the advice to leave it alone for 15 minutes should really be censured. LOL. I honestly do not remember when I decided to re-rebatch it, but I did, and put the remains in little cups and the results were ugly but cute. I call them my little oat cakes. I added bergamot EO and an LoTV FO and they have a nice smell but very faint.
They hardened up very quickly. A few days after the second rebatching they were like rocks. I began to use a bar about a week ago and I really loved it. It lathers up quickly but then...the lather sort of breaks down and becomes uber-creamy. To me this is not a bug but a feature. I love it! The whole lather becomes a mass of creaminess. It washes away very easily and my hands feel very clean.
My next batch will be the same but a higher lye concentration, and greater attention to cosmetic attractiveness. I didn't care about looks for my 1st batch but I do care now. I want to make white, hard, bars in a loaf mold.
I love superfatted soap!
