I have been making soap for 10 years and selling it for five. Recently I purchased larger equipment which will give me more capacity. I have a lye tank and need to be sure about what I am doing as I put multiple mixtures of lye into the tank and take them from the tank. Lets say I mix 40oz of lye with 100 ounces of water, and add multiples of that to the tank. How many ounces of lye do I take from the tank for each recipe. I am assuming I take 144 ounces, but since it isn't good to assume anything with a soap recipe, I need to ask. Does anyone have the answer to this question? Thank you in advance.

Sorry, I went blank...

I had posed this question on a different forum when I said I added 41 oz of lye to 103 ounces of water and was assuming I would remove 144 ounces of lye for each batch. In the above post it should be 140 instead of 144. Thank you.

It's really no difference than masterbatching your lye. Just at a different ratio. Most use 1:1.

You're premixing your lye/water at 30%. Figure your recipe accounting for a 30% solution.

For instance: 100% coconut (for ease of explantion) superfatted at 6%.

260 oz of CO
44 oz Lye
100 oz Water.

144 oz of Lye/Water mix.

Good luck with your ramped up soaping! Looking forward to hearing all about it!
