I didn't look at all the threads, so I hope this hasn't already been asked. Does anyone know of a good purple colorant for CP? I have tried oxides and several liquid dyes and colors, but the best I can come up with is lavender/gray...more on the gray side. :(

You can get a nice purple with alkanet root powder infusion but it tends to fade gray after a while.

There was one. Someone posted their results with 4 different oxides. Check the cold process forum for the thread. I might find it in a lil bit when I get online.

I believe those were actually micas from the Conservatorie, but yes, you might look up that post.

I used Titan Violet Mica from New Directions in a soap I made a few weeks ago. It made a very dark purple (but not so dark as to be black). You can see the color on my YouTube channel NorthHillSoap- it's the Tiger Swirl video.

Not sure how these pics are going to turn out, but here are some of the purples I've used from The Conservatorie. The small bars were made with 1/8 tsp per 2oz of oil. I don't remember how much I used for the swirl in the BRV bar. The colors in the pic are as follows:

Upper Left - Sparkling Deep Violet; Lower Left - Passionate Purple; Upper Right - Sparkling Violet; Lower Right - Pansy

Hope that helps.

THe purples I posted in that thread are holding their colors well, which I thought I'd mention since someone asked about it elsewhere. Also the Cosmo Martini from the COnservatorie gives a nice purple. I haven't used a ton to try to get the deep dark purple I've seen in places but will have to give that a try.

Thanks everyone! The one thing I have not tried is mica, I read somewhere that it wouldn't hold up to the soap process (CP). I should know not to believe everything I read! I was trying to reach every shade of purple; lavender, bright, and dark, and looks like there are quite a few options out there! Thanks again!! :)

Some micas won't hold up in CP. Micas that contain ferric ferrocyanide, manganese violet & carmine are usually not stable in CP.

Thanks, Genny! That's good to know. And I do think the manganese violet is one of the pigments I tried to use only to turn to gray. Oh well, Mermaid Kisses ended up looking a little stormy! ;)
