I have 2lbs of kokum to use up. I’ve made 100% Shea butter soap before. Thinking about kokum at 80% with 5% coco and castor, 10% olive. Any guess how that will work?

The lather will be abysmal and the bar will be really hard.

With Kokum/Illipe, going over 10% in a recipe with low coconut makes for a bar that won’t lather great. Ask me how I know:confused:

ETA: Making a batch with 20% Kokum 20% Coconut and 60% combo of liquid oils makes a really good bar.

I know this won't be a typical bar of soap - and that's what I'm striving for. I love using a 100 % shea butter bar for frequent hand washing during this pandemic. I don't have shea butter on hand, so thought I'd use kokum with just a touch of coconut and soft oils, along with 5% potassium hydroxide, and see what happens.

Shea butter is a different animal though. My Kokum butter is super hard, illipe even harder. Like little stones.

You might end up liking it... Let us know how it goes.

Isn't cocoa butter softer than kokum? If it is, that is my closest basis for comparison. Besides, I heard that kokum butter is good for the skin and, you know, butters and lotions can still be made with some of it.
