Hello once again,

I left my first batch of Castile soap cure for 5 weeks after cutting and since it's 1 am here and being my usual very normal self, I thought I'd see what I had done. So I licked (Yes, licked) the soap to see if it would "zap", it didn't but since I worry too much and was concerned about it being too caustic, I did what any normal person would do, wash my hair with it.(I will let you know if I wake up bald and with scalp burns from lye tomorrow morning :p )
Now, to get to the point, when I put the soap under water to wash my hands for no reason, I noticed it made my hands quite greasy, a bit too greasy for my taste but once rinsed with water there was no grease left so that was a good thing.
So the question is: What happened? What do I do? How do I make a harder bar of soap that won't grease everything it touches because I don't think any of my friends would appreciate testing that sort of soap. I did it with a 5% SF.
Truth be told my hair feels very nice, after 4 months of no-poo method, it's good feeling like you've actually cleaned your hair :p. And my hands are also very soft, which has never happened before with commercial soap. I'm not very up to try it on my face, the possibility of becoming bald is bad enough. I will let it cure for another week and then wash everything I can get my hands on, starting from my guinea pig.
Please help with this. I want to make more soap but if it turns out this oily while under water no one will want it :/

Thanks a lot!

Castile soap takes 6 months to a year to cure. It should be lovely in another 5 months. it should be safe now, but it will melt quickly, and be slimy and greasy for quite a while longer.

Oh God, when I read 6 months, I think I lost it a little out of fear. At least it is safe to use. I will definitely let it cure longer, time is not a problem, but since I've usually read 4-6 weeks, I thought I'd dry. You explained exactly what happened, it did lose quite a bit of size and the slime was too much.
Thank you very much for answering :)

No worries. And if you want to get a little adventurous, some coconut, palm, lard, tallow, and/or castor help make some mighty fine soap that will cure in that 4-6 week period. It is only that 100% olive oil that takes forever.

yes, it is perfectly safe to use at 5 weeks. wait another 5 months and you'll see vast improvements. it is still going to be slimy though, that's just the nature of the beast with castile. if you want to lessen the slime problem, you can have a read at the super lye castile thread over at the cp sub forum. it is done without superfat (-40 to be exact), with extra water to compensate. it is a long thread, but worth the read me thinks.
