Not only did my bamboo charcoal pencil lines fail on my mineral salt bar (now referred to as Stew Rocks, Medieval Fair) but now my First rose hip oil soap in my new silicone mold. Lesson learned: silicone sticks like glue on silicone. Even the can of beans I use to try to push the soap out of the mold with got stuck. Not a good idea. So I'm wondering if you can use the silicone liner in the silicone mold if you use parchment or freezer paper in between them. Has anyone tried this?

I'll try scrubbing the soap not only to remove the ash but to clean up the edge. I beginning to think this will be the year I make enough soap for home use to cover the next five.

If I had to line a silicone mould then I would throw it away! I line my moulds, but only the wooden ones - my little silicone moulds or my big overflow moulds don't need lining, which is the whole point of having them.

Which one do you have?

Try a bit of mineral oil sprayed on the mold next time. Of my silicone molds, one loaf mold sticks a bit at the bottom short side edge. Just a touch of swabbed-in mineral oil takes care of that.

TeriDK when I use that silicon mat in a round mold (mine is stainless steel pipe) I use baking paper and it slides out beautifully. The paper is on a roll so already has a natural curve. Good luck next time

So your problem wasn't that the soap stuck to the mold, but that the silicon mat you used for texture stuck inside the mold?

Would it possibly work better just to roll the fresh, soft log of soap over the mat afterward instead?

Eric, I don't know. To make the imprint, the soap would need to be very soft. Probably too soft to hold in my feeble hands.

Yes, I think if I were to use a silicone mat in a round silicone mold again, I would line it with baking parchment.

But all is well. I use a zester to clean up the outer edge. Turned out so well that I might use it again in lieu of the mat.
