Today was the second use of 100% lard soap made six weeks ago (33% lye, gelled).

It's a mixed bag. In the first place, it's almost impossible to hand lather - even with softened water. It still got me clean, but makes no noticeable lather on the body the way I normally shower with the bar in the hand. I CAN make it lather a bit between two hand, but I have to work really, really hard to get a minimal amount of tiny white bubbles. The second day I tried a washcloth. With that I was able to work up a good supply of creamy lather that lasted long enough for a whole shower.

However, the soap does feel really good on the skin, leaving things very soft with a moisturized feel. Very nice. Lots and lots of glycerin evident. I was able to make a bubble sheet from my chest to my circled arms (3 sq ft or so) that was resilient enough to last 20-30 seconds.

Overall, I'd say it's a pretty nice soap, but it DOES make you work for it. If you typically use a poof or cloth, you might like it. I'm personally going back to a little bit of bubbly oil and some castor.

I love my 100% lad soaps and dont have too much of an issue getting what I feel is enough bubbles with just my hands. I go for the slick feel of soap on my skin just as much as I look for a visual indication that the soap is lathering

I agree that bubble lovers would be disappointed in 100% lard. My husband still uses commercial soap to get the bubbles he wants.

Awesome! I've been curious of how a 100% lard soap would behave but I never come around to make one myself.

My hubby is all about the bubbles too. All of the discussion I've been catching up on has me wildly curious about dual-lye soaps and I think a predominantly high lard soap will be a perfect candidate for me to try.

Maybe 95% lard, 5% castor, and 100% coconut milk sub

Now I just need my KOH to show up.....

What superfat did you use? I've used 5%, and it makes decent bubbles. But adding more oils to make a balanced bar is definitely much nicer.

Sounds interesting. Do you think a 100% Tallow recipe would have the same effect? Maybe add a bit of soft oil to compliment the lather?

100% tallow is a harder bar with more bubbles, but less creamy lather.

Overall, I am a lather lover, so I like the recipes with some OO, CO, and castor oil. But still lots and lots of lard. I like the lard/tallow blends better, but I can't buy tallow here, and I would rather take a beating than render my own again.
