Today was the second use of 100% lard soap made six weeks ago (33% lye, gelled).
It's a mixed bag. In the first place, it's almost impossible to hand lather - even with softened water. It still got me clean, but makes no noticeable lather on the body the way I normally shower with the bar in the hand. I CAN make it lather a bit between two hand, but I have to work really, really hard to get a minimal amount of tiny white bubbles. The second day I tried a washcloth. With that I was able to work up a good supply of creamy lather that lasted long enough for a whole shower.
However, the soap does feel really good on the skin, leaving things very soft with a moisturized feel. Very nice. Lots and lots of glycerin evident. I was able to make a bubble sheet from my chest to my circled arms (3 sq ft or so) that was resilient enough to last 20-30 seconds.
Overall, I'd say it's a pretty nice soap, but it DOES make you work for it. If you typically use a poof or cloth, you might like it. I'm personally going back to a little bit of bubbly oil and some castor.
