Two weeks ago, I did a "10-days of silence" retreat in a town 2 hours from here. 15 of us resided at a Catholic nunnery (with only 2 elderly nuns remaining there). It was on an island of land atop a hill, surrounded by noisy city. Across the road at front was a hospital, with a new building under construction; at back and downhill was a huge lumbermill. It is a challenge to meditate in a noisy city, but all the more necessary to learn how to do this.
The 'sacred space' provided was an island of peace, inside especially. I have missed Oases like this, in our busy lives.
It was wonderful!!!..... (except for the first 4 days when this wild mustang of a body and mind with all its insatiable desires and perturbations was rebelling.)
Deep rest and deep silence is so refreshing, renewing.
I journalled it onto 19 pages, if anyone is interested, I'll be blogging as soon as I edit it down to fewer pages. I'm sure you don't want to read every minute detail of what I ate, how little sleep I had etc....lol
