As much as I like salt bars, I'd really like to have a sugar bar that isn't a
M & P solid sugar scrub. I want a actual soap bar, something that cleans well and is nice to the skin.

I'd love to use CP but I assume it would make a horrible volcanic mess or some other catastrophe, even if froze immediately. Has anyone ever tried?

I was thinking that maybe I could do HP safely. A 1 lb batch with 1/2- 1 lb of m & p added at vaseline stage to help smooth the mix out. 1lb of sugar (possibly more) then stuffed into a mold. I'm thinking that like a salt bar, a sugar bar would need to be cut soon to prevent crumbling.

Any thoughts on this or different ideas?

I tried a sugar bar using Turbinado sugar. The soap weeped around the large grains of sugar. I think it was just the sugar melting because the soap didn't zap. Eventually that stopped. I suggest using regular white sugar in a small batch to try it out.

I would just do HP if you can and at it at trace but I don't know if the heat will dissolve the sugar. Hopefully someone that has tried it will come along :)

Thank you. I was thinking about trying a larger grain sugar to improve the scrubby feel. How did you make your bar? Any other troubles besides melting sugar?

I just made a cp bar, can't remember the recipe. I usually use rice bran oil, coconut oil and Castor oil in most of my recipes, though. I added the sugar at light trace. There was some brown discoloration around the grains that were weeping. It turned out to be a nice scrubby bar for personal use. I wouldn't have tried to sell it.

My attempt at a HP/M & P sugar batch is currently cooking in the crock pot but it may be a failure. I decided to save time by melting the M & P with the oils before adding the lye. I SB the oil mix then added the lye, it seized or riced or something. It turned into a globby mess that wanted to separate. I kept stirring and eventually it loosened up a bit but still looks like it wants to separate.
I tossed in some pink clay, blended it a bit more and covered the crock pot while hoping for the best. If it cooks down and looks ok, I'll add the sugar and pour. If nothing else, it was a good learning curve. I should have cooked down the HP before adding the M & P.

It cooked down into a very nice smooth mix so I tossed in 1 lb of sugar, added a bit more color for a itps and globbed it into the mold. I suspect a large amount of sugar dissolved but as long as its usable in the end, all is well. It did get very thick, reminded me of school paste.
As I was cleaning my tools, I couldn't help but try a bit out on my hands. There is a ton a thick lather so this was a fun experiment if nothing else. I might try a sugar bar again sometime, I need to rethink my approach though.
Pics coming as soon as I can cut.
