Have you considered an emulsified body butter?

Thanks a lot! I'll check them out.

    Melt and pour from scratch

That's my first thought. Do you think adding 5% soy wax and no stearic will be ok? I tried 3% soy/no stearic before and that's when it didn't firm up like it should have.

    Melt and pour from scratch

Yep. I tried shorter bursts and cutting the pieces smaller too. I had read that if the soap seems soft then you can add some stearic acid. But, my recipe also has soy wax which I forgot is already high in stearic. So maybe it's that as far as it thickening up fast, I am planning on omitting the...

    Melt and pour from scratch

Thanks so much for the responses. I will definitely take a good long look at the i sent to me. I am making a triple butter (mango, kokum, shea) to be specific. Starting there and then may move on to making transparent. The issues I'm having right now are: 1. My soap is a little soft on the...

    Face Scrub Recipe Help

High linoleic sunflower oil is non comedogenic. I use sunflower oil in all of my skincare products. On a side note, kokum butter is also non comedogenic.

I'm taking it slow, making sure I have things right and that I am happy with it. Sometimes it is hard to stay positive. I catch this other maker on YouTube at times, Kaitlin Blue of Sollette. She makes soap, body butters, etc. She posted yesterday morning about staying positive & motivated and...

    Surfactants...

Yes, it's exciting and bit scary at the same time. I live in Chicago and there are so many people with handmade goods, etc. I want to try and get into a farmer's market or something like that, but there is so much competition. I figure I will have to do Etsy or something. The thought of having...

Hello! I have dabbled in so much the last couple years....hot process soap, various Iotions and body butters, body scrubs, face scrubs, clay face masks, whipped soap, lip balm, lip gloss, cream eye shadows, cream brushes and highlighters. Also candle making, wax melts and room diffusers. I love...

Ofcourse! I thought it might be hard to find a group on here that is experienced/ focused on more skincare type products. I have bounced around so many different avenues the past couple years, but I really enjoy making the things I am now. It's nice to have found you all! Is anyone selling their...

Check out Marie Rayma with Humble Bee & Me, she has an ingredient encyclopedia that I reference quite a bit. I also like Tara Lee Skincare. She has a lot of you tube videos with good info and recipes. Those are my main two for things like lotions, scrubs, etc. I also like Jerika Zimmerman, she...

Note on coco glucoside. I sub this for my decyl glucoside to see what the difference would be. Coco glucoside made my recipe very stringy and sticky, not pleasant at all to touch. I was within the usage range too. Not sure if anyone else has used this ingredient but I'm not a fan.

Thanks for the details. I tried SCI noodles a while back, at the time didn't know about grinding them and they never melted. It was really frustrating. I really just have a single cook top with a wide deep pan for double boiling. I can fit a couple decent sized glass mixing cups or beakers in it...

The microwave freaks me out too. I just microwaved my Glycerin, cocamidopropyl betaine, coco glucoside, and SLSA. Caught it rising to the point of overflow. I'm lucky I caught it, I like double boiling because I can see what's happening. I've gotten so much good info from this thread so far. I'm...

Do you prefer SCI or SLSA? Just curious. I think I will try the SLSA and the microwave in my next batch. Thanks so much for your advice 😁

I do the same, except I use the double boiler method. The microwave makes me nervous for some reason. Lol! Next time I will use the microwave. So it completely melts down? No having to "sift through" the mixture to make sure there are no SCI clumps left? Does SLSA melt down the same way? I ask...

I am not familiar with lactic acid, is it vegan? Do you use it the same as citric? I do a 50/50.

Hi! Thanks so much for your response! I did see that the ph was high. I do have a pH meter. Would you lower ph using a citric acid/distilled water solution?
