    Soap workshop frustration

Guys! I just completed my first workshop and it was so fulfilling. Frustrations aside and over. I just loved sharing with people the processes and bringing up safety measures every other sentence. I loved how some peeps are mind boggled by oils turning into soap. Unfortunately, I didn't get a...

    Soap workshop frustration

Big thanks to everyone who read my rant. Update 1 Committee lady said she told me verbally about receipts and I maintain that I have always quoted a fixed price based on an invoice. I let this slide since I'm on the losing end. Committee accepts non-English receipts but I have to translate it...

    Soap workshop frustration

Loooong rant ahead. In Feb this year, I was asked by my workplace recreation committee to do Cp soap workshops for team bonding. I quoted per pax $25 and they countered with $20 as max claim for such events is $20. Then they said to leave some budget for food so lowered to $18. I agreed, 3...

SMF July 2024 Challenge - Woodgrain Designs

Posting my poor attempts here before I forget. Going to the aquarium tomorrow with friends who are in town. I get that woodgrain isn't my thing. Seeing as out of 6 attempts, the only decent soap was the FO accelerated one that had to be plopped into the mould. I liked this blue colour but...

ENTRY THREAD for July 2024 SMF Challenge - Woodgrain Designs

Submitting my dismal entry of some rotting old looking wood. Brown base with orange, yellow and u colored accents. No FOs.

    Gifting/donating soap with DOS

I peel my soaps with DOS to see how deep the DOS goes then throw them. You would think DOS is on the surface but sometimes it can go inside the soap. I've used DOS soap for washing equipment and it just makes the whole experience icky since the foam smell rancid too. I'll say if it smells...

    A gift

I did use FCO last year. Can't say it was much different in terms of hardness compared with my other soaps. Probably due to the copious amount of PO that balanced out. But I remembered the FCO was 3 times the price of my normal CO. This was my recipe. 20% FCO 38.5% PO 27.5% RBO 11% OP 3% Castor

Made soap from used cooking oils....something went wrong :D

You could find different types of waste oil (if possible) and mix them for a more balanced recipe. I take it you previously made a canola soap and it turned out different from this batch?

Which packaging for Halloween Bath Bombs?

The square one looks like it would wrap better. But I like the round one for the idea of the contents below and toy in the dome part. I must say that I minus some points from the round one a tiny bit due to the cover sometimes being very tight and small hands can't open it. My kids sometimes...

SMF July 2024 Challenge - Woodgrain Designs

I followed the Cheeky Goat way. A dollop of colour here and there. Then topped up with the colours 2 more times. I think I'm pouring too fast and too little after watching the vids again. Last 2 attempts this weekend and I'm closing this woodgrain chapter for now. Brown mica, silver mica and...

    Honey and goat milk soap

I'll say what works with your freezer and recipe. If you're intending to use all the liquid as ice and if your freezer has space for a bowl to freeze, go ahead. I do fingers of ice (about 3") since that's the only tray I have spare for soaping ice. I fill them 3/4 way. My freezer has no space...

SMF July 2024 Challenge - Woodgrain Designs

What's the best trace to pour woodgrain? I tried thin trace and it looked good when pouring but turned out too muddled. Or could it be I'm pouring too little when I make my passes? Attempt 1 - Random ash parts covering up woodgrain. Possible entry. Attempt 2 - FO sped up too fast. Unpourable...

    What increases "longevity"?

True that! My normal recipe only has 25 longevity. I struggle a little with mushy soap so I may do a stearic test soon. Yes I do live in Singapore. Unless he's making a zigzag route, I think he hasn't landed here yet. I love Thailand! I went to read up on this. Sounds interesting! Probably...

    What increases "longevity"?

I used to think I want my soaps to last long. But now having a bountiful stash of soap at home, I can't wait for them to melt away in the shower like a salt bar. That said, I do have some stearic acid that I could throw into soap to see how it compares with my normal recipe.

    Not quite gelling completely woes

Interesting concept. I shall have to try this as I do get ungelled corners too. How do you preheat the mould? Like put it on the heating pad?

    Salt Soap and super fat

I'm so envious of you guys that can cure salt bars for months. My latest salt bars haven't stopped sweating since it was made 3 months ago. I had hopes to cure them unwrapped but have now cling wrapped them. For Holly's recipe, what is the salt %? I've never had a salt soap that was greasy and...

SMF July 2024 Challenge - Woodgrain Designs

Attempted 2 small 500g batches. #1 turned out as good as I could hope for. Fluid batter, more or less distinct lines, even remembered to put in some knots. Waiting to cut tomorrow. #2 was a flop. FO sped it up. Will not be considered for entry. Hopefully I have time for more attempts.
