    Coffee in DIY lotion

Just to be clear - hydrosols, that are essentially condensed steam, are not safe to use in a lotion recipe? I see how a water infusion could be problematic, but I’m surprised that a true hydrosol would be problematic. Is the issue the same with using glycerin infusions in a lotion product?

Can FOs discolor soap lather too?

Oh wow, that was an adventure! Yes - I just still can’t get over it happening. The strange thing is I do not remember the lather being brown in early Fall. I think I would have noticed it being this bad! It’s like it get worse over time! Plus it has a tinge of orange - like digestive...

Can FOs discolor soap lather too?

Has anyone had just the FO cause discoloration of the soap lather/residue (ie soap dish) to brown? I used brambleberry’s hot cocoa and cinnamon FO in a soap made way back last July. It was one of my first FOs and I didn’t realize what 8% vanilla would do! When I went to use the soap recently...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I thought the bubbles were more associated with vinegar? I recently did a whole water replacement with vinegar and that soap is rock hard a week later! The first batch I tried crumbled when I went to cut it 12 hours later. It’s only been a week so I don’t know how the bubbles are yet!

    Brambleberry FO labels

Yes! There labels are terrible for the way the text just disappears as soon as oil hits it. It’s not just the FO. I have 1 pound plastic bottles from them where the labels will smear as soon as the oil hits them! There is one where I’m 99% is castor oil based on where I found it, but it...

Help me out with a name?

I love the colors and the design! If ok can you share generally what technique this is? It reminds me of Japanese prints and could almost be half a mountain in snow.

    1.7:1 ratio

1.7:1 is my go to because I don’t typically get soda ash with it. However, I’ve been finding that lye percentage (~37%) difficult to use with having enough water left over to dissolve sodium citrate and clays or anything else I don’t want to put directly into the lye solution.

    Little brown spots throughout soap

Thank you for your help! 1) Not this exact recipe but similar with slightly percentages (see example below). I’ve also soaped with AV frequently and do not always strain out the pulp (it’s typically very very little) 3) It is the first time I used the fragrance oil. 2) it’s not the first...

    Ione, requesting feedback

I really like the pink and think it looks very vibrant! Is the purple from purple le Brazilian clay? I recently made a batch with the same purple color :)

    Little brown spots throughout soap

I’m 90% sure the spots are scorched powdered buttermilk I decided last minute to add to my oils. The pour was lovely and I had really high hopes until I took it out of the oven I CPOP’d in the next day. There are brown freckles throughout. Scorched milk powder is purely cosmetic - right? The...

Too much superfat! What should I do?

They look lovely and I think they will be fine to use. Look at it this way - you’ve got a chelator to keep those pesky oil molecules bound together as they go down the the drain!

How to make just 1 bar of soap?

I used a 6 individual small rectangular bar mold (holds 1 lb) to vary fragrance oils/other stir able additives.

    "Squeaky" Clean Feeling

It seems to go away the longer the soap cures (for me if we’re talking about the same feeling).

    Hydrosol as lye water?

I used neroli hydrosol (frozen cubes) and it basically acted the same as water in the lye solution (except for the bits of orange precipitating out. I poured the lye solution through a strainer to strain the orange bits out.

Squeaky Clean, Sticky Feeling during rinse.

That squeaky clean feel goes away after about 5 months (in my experience). Even when the bar feels solid and doesn’t quickly melt away in water the squeaky feel remains. It’s the last part to mellow out (in my experience).
