Undissolved lye? Rebatch a second time?

Has anyone ever used those ph tools to see if lye heavy or not? Debating whether or not those are more effective than using litmus or zap?

Undissolved lye? Rebatch a second time?

My oils and lye were at 91/87.6 before they were mixed. Perhaps I should have said pockets of lye instead of undissolved lye (basically the white chunks in my soap). Thanks for Lye link. I really don't like the zap test either. However, I use the litmus paper too and I'm at a 9. I used calendula...

Undissolved lye? Rebatch a second time?

The lye was fully dissolved in the water. As I poured it down shaft of stick blender, the batter dripped down the sides of my bowl and onto my counter. The batter wasn't blended yet. When I poured into a bigger bowl and added rest that spilled, it was blended to trace.

Undissolved lye? Rebatch a second time?

The lye water mixture and my batched oils spilled on the counter. I'm hoping it's not undissolved lye and just the scrapes of overcooked batter...will test. Here is another picture.

Undissolved lye? Rebatch a second time?

Hello all! My cold processed turned into a disaster. 1. While pouring in my lye, I notice the mixture spilled onto the counter. 2. It was transferred to another bowl, and I put what was on the counter back in the bowl (this is my personal batch) 3. I mixed all of my other ingredients, it...

    Why is top layer soft

Thanks! I will probably just cut the 2 layers off since it is still soft.

    Why is top layer soft

I think I will use less of both. Definitely, add just enough oil to blend in mica. Do you think the soap will be safe to use after cure?

    Why is top layer soft

My recipe actually was @ 30%. Not 33. Didn't think of that. It was 1 tsp mica to 1 tbsp of my batched oils. Should I use 1 teaspoon of oil instead? I'm thinking either too much fragrance or oil. When I poured in the fragrance on the last 2 layers, I immediately thought it was too much. This is...

    Why is top layer soft

Yes. This is my normal recipe at 30%. I've used this brand before, but the scent is new for me. Correction: 33%

    Why is top layer soft

Hello all! So, I'm not sure what is going on with the top and middle layers. This was suppose to be swirled in my mold, but started to seize. The top layer, seemed to rice, so I stick blended continuously until it became smooth. Consistency reminded me of hot process. The problem is that I've...

I hope that is not the case at all. I actually love their shea and the natural scent. Just not sure of this film on top... my oils are usually golden.

Funny you say that. I bought Shea as well and it did look different from the last one I bought. The texture seems easier to spread. When my oils were melted, I noticed a slight white foam on top. I think they may be a cutting it with something else.

anybody purchase from The Plant Guru?

Well..every fragrance oil that I have used seized my batches. I have changed the way I soap to see if the fragrance was the problem--it is! I changed ingredients, soaped full water, discounted water, soaped cool. My frag. free soap come out fine....I even have time to design my tops. Usually...

Thanks. I thought they were cheap. We'll, I will have to shop around. They were all good reviews. Not sure if etsy posts good reviews only. I have never seen a bad one listed for Plant Guru.

    The Plant Guru

Hello There! I'm new to the forum. I wish I had found this site sooner! So, I've been soaping for 6 months now and it has been quite the journey. Has anyone tried fragrance oil from The Plant Guru on Etsy? It seems that all of the fragrances I've used from them are seizing my batches. I have...
