    SMF January 2022 Entry Thread

I know it is to late for an entry but I just wanted to post what I finally got to do. I am in the North East of Victoria Australia. The Australian bush is where I feel most at home and of course as an Aussie beer had to be involved. This is my Bush Beer Soap. The colours are of our ghost gums...

    Grocery store soap challenge

Great feedback. I am now googling madly to understand your ingredients (the maths I get, I am an accountant, far, far from away from science) . Your description of the dehydrated soap texture and behaviour is spot on to mine. I have now taken a leaf from your experiment, and I have taken a...

    Cream Soap dehydration

My recipe is a really old one so maybe before soapcalc was a thing? I get zero zap after 1/2 hour of cooking, although I cook for a minimum of 1 hr. My PH sits at around 9. The idea of replacing some (apparently up to half) of the glycerin with lactic acid was from someone who dared to reveal...

    Cream Soap dehydration

Well mine is in a small pot on the shower shelf (open), after a couple of weeks it was the reduced content level that caught my eye first, then realised it was solidifying. I would say it has now reduced by 1/2. It is not totally solid now, more like a dense paste. It seems to have stopped now...

    Cream Soap dehydration

Happy to indulge your nosey-ness. I am looking to improve future batches. I have not added anything, including water from the initial cook. So far I have 8 batches, and all 8 are behaving slightly differently, even though I used the exact same ingredients. Slightly Different cooking times maybe...

    Cream Soap dehydration

Agreed it is the end user (and I do it too). I will put a notice on the label. I haven't sold any yet, as my first batch is only 4 months old, so I can add to the label design Yes my recipe is very similar to Lindy's, except I use 1% Kaolin, and 1% powdered sugar, and I blend them into the...

    Cream Soap dehydration

Thanks DeeAnna, I wondered whether liquid soap would be the same (I haven’t ventured down that rabbit hole yet). I was looking for something to replace some of the water, but not affect the lather. I am guessing it doesn’t exist.

    Cream Soap dehydration

Thanks, there doesn’t seem to be many cream soap makers anywhere. I have read (I think) every cream soap thread on the forum, and haven’t had any luck finding an answer. I guess I will have experiment myself. Ugh everything to do with the cream process takes sooo long, I was hoping for a quick...

    Cream Soap dehydration

Hi, I have made quite a few batches of cream soap, and I am really happy with my recipe. Is there any kind of additive that will keep the cream soap from turning to a (soft) solid. This only happens if the lid is left off the container, but not everyone puts the lid back on after use.
