Question about using colorants in HP soap

Hello everyone! So I took a 2-year absence from soap making after I tried my first batch and found that I absolutely hated the smell of lye solution (when mixing lye into water) :( However, I thought I'd give it another try and did the mixing of the lye solution OUTSIDE and it was totally...

why does my soap look like this?

Agriffin and Labwitch: Thanks! I'll do that next time :) Kelleyaynn: Soapcalc gave me a value of 46 for hardness on this soap. And I'm not sure what discounting the water means? And good point on patience! I need to learn to be more patient ... this should be good practice for me...

    Hi from Japan!

Hello! My name is Jane ... I'm not Japanese, but married to one and live in Japan :) I'm a total novice at soapmaking and just made my first batch last Friday. I cut them up today and leaving them to cure -- just can't wait to see if they will actually be usable in a month's time! :lol...

    Botched Castile - With Pictures

Hi! I just joined this site and am a total noob at soapmaking, but I started my very first batch on Friday and today, I had the exact same problem when I cut the soap! My soap isn't castille, though .. it's actually a basic olive oil and lard soap. And I don't believe the temperature was too...
