    Goat milk newbie

Hi, We have goats and use their milk in soap too. As you read the forums, pay attention to oil temperatures and also % milk (vs water) in your recipe. These two things will make the most difference in preventing your soap from overheating. I would also recommend a couple of things: - put molds...

    itchy scalp remedy

Not trying to dissuade you from your experiment, just wanted to tell you something that worked for me in the past. I have Psoriasis on scalp. Tried tons of things from Dr and over the counter. When it was at its worse in winter it got painful and itchy. A friend recommended using coconut oil...

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

Ok, so I made another batch. This time I heated solid oils up to 165F, added the liquid oils in and let it cool to 98F. My lye solution was 96F, and both my EO and Milk was at 76F. I was very excited to cut the bars and see what was going to be there. I am happy to report that the bars look much...

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

@KiwiMoose I do not believe the spots are ash. I have done over 8 batches with this problem and washing them off (even more-so than polishing) the spots do not go away. I even got mad once and tried to rub it with toothbrush under water to get rid of them for a long time. The spots run much...

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

One more ingredient I forgot to mention…. I use Sodiun Citrate in small quantity. I dissolve this into a small bit of heated water to dissolve. Then add it to lye solution.

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

@Ford in past I used to heat goat milk only to 70F, but I increased the temp to 85F thinking maybe pouring in the milk was too cool and causing solid fats to solidify. So I raised its temp to see if it helped….it did not. I put the goat milk in the freezer immediately after pouring… so that...

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

@The_Phoenix just so I understand, I heat up solid fats up to 170ish. Then mix with the liquid fats, then let them cool to 97F… then proceed as normal?

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

Solid fats usually get up to around 130- 135F when I heat them up alone. Then I mix them with liquid fats that are around 74-76F.

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

Oh right, sorry I forgot that info.... Olive oil (37%), Castor oil (12%) I leave those at room temp (76F). Then I heat the solid oils of Palm oil (30%), Palm kernel oil (10%), and coconut oil (11%). I then combine all the oils and let them cool until they are 97F or 98F after mixed together...

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

The colorants were green mica and activated charcoal. The white is not shiny, but a dull white if that helps. And in other soap I made with no colorants, the same thing happened.

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

I have done maybe 10 different batches... most were light to medium trace after stick blending (what I prefer). But others were thicker due to EOs that accelerated trace (clove, etc)....or involved multiple colors so stick-blended more. All of them had the white spots unless they gelled through...

Can Stearic Spots appear after cutting bars?

Hello, I am struggling to figure out what I am doing wrong here. I am making some goat milk soap but I keep getting white spots showing up and ruining the design of the bars. The spots usually appear after 12-24 hours after I cut the loaves. I was wondering if it is possible for stearic spots to...

True confessions and help needed… Patchouli

I love patchouli but the wife hates it. I blended it with orange 60:40 and she loves it. Maybe it will help you too?

Is selling on Etsy a good idea?

I sell our goat milk soap at farmers markets, online, retail, & tried Etsy. For me Etsy was an utter failure. I tried for 9 months with not a single sale. I think there are several reasons for this. One is the photos need to be great to really pop and catch people’s attention. Secondly, without...

    Milk soap

I have used both frozen goat milk and dried. My experience has been the higher percentage of GM, the more likely you get discoloration. With the powder I seem to get much less chance. I have also noticed that after you unmold it and let it cure a few days it seems to get a bit lighter. If you...

    Pain relief/arthritis cream copy

@Seawolfe, I think the cream your Insane crew member was rubbing on you may have had bee venom in it. Never used it myself in a cream, but other folks said it works. My rheumatologist would say some people get stung on purpose every now and then to combat the inflammation. When I kept bees I...

Can I prevent gel by placing CP soap outside in the 🥶?

Most of it has been covered by others... but I would recommend: Put molds outside or chill them prior to pouring soap in mold. Use a mold that throws off more heat (less insulating)....wood loaf molds I have hold the heat really bad. Elevate bottom of mold so air can circulate under it. You...

76 vs 96 Coconut oil impact to hardness of soap?

Thank so much for you answer! This helps out a lot.... I found a local supplier which would save a bunch of money (no shipping) but they only have 76F. Appreciate the time!

76 vs 96 Coconut oil impact to hardness of soap?

Hello all, I need your advice. I have read online about 92F coconut oil yielding harder bars than 76F bars. Is their truth to this? Part of me thinks it has to be true since the 92F oil is solid at room temp, but part of me thinks the saponification process may nullify this somehow. Plus...
