Can't answer your question, but you're soaping at way too high temp. Oils and lye should be at max 110 degrees. You can go lower than that, room temp as an example.

I have always used tap water.

I mix my lye on the stovetop with the vent on. No fumes. I have never heard of a fire caused by lye.

I cover the batch with a strip of silicone, then the wooden lid of the mold. Leave until completely cold, then a few hours after. I never get ash.

There's an oil cleansing method. I don't know if it's been discussed here or not. I made some many years ago and my husband, some friends, and myself all loved it.

I would toss it.

I wrap mine up with pieces of fleece blanket. Each piece is doubled. In colder weather, I set the whole thing on a heating pad.

I've never used a chelator.

Here is the Abalone Sea cut, and a new log that needs a name. It's a blend of Leather FO, Cedarwood EO, and 15x Sweet Orange EO.

I really like it. I hadn't smelled it before. Probably cut it tomorrow. I'll be sure to post pics 😊
