    New wooden mold

I found a wood box at a thrift store that was used to hold a bottle of wine. It is really thin, less than 1/2" thick and I don't see any screws. It holds about 3.5 lbs batch. It didn't fall apart on me. I've only made 1 batch so I don't know if it will with more useage.

    How important is temperature?

What about coconut oil, which is solid at room temperature? If I melt it and mix with my other oils prior and it starts to solidify, would it be okay to mix in the lye? The lye will heat up and melt it right?

    How important is temperature?

I'm new to soaping too and was wondering about the mixing temperature too. A lot of people of said that it doesn't matter exactly, as long as it's not too hot (because so fast trace, or as long as it feels similar. But what if my lye is room temperature and my oils are hot? There would be a...

What is superfatting - in plain English please

Hi, newbie here. Can someone explain what superfatting means? Is it the extra oils after soap has saponified? What's does a low percentage mean compared to high? I've read some posts but just don't understand! :confused:Thanks

    Taking soon long!

I made my 2nd batch of Bastille soap on Tuesday. I put it in the fridge for 24 hrs and then let sit at room temperature for 24 hrs to cut. It was still too soft I think because I was getting drag marks. So I waited another 24 hrs, same thing! And now I just went to cut it again and it still...

    Soap for babies?

Are most soaps gentle enough for babies? Should it be mostly olive oil? Any ingredient I should avoid? Does anyone have a good recipe for baby soap?

    Unmolding after 48 hrs

I will try to dig it out of the mold tonight. Any tips on how I can remove them easier next time? Can I prep the mold somehow?

    Unmolding after 48 hrs

Update: I still can't take the soap out of the molds (without breaking it in pieces). Anything wrong with letting it just cure in the mold?

    Wood vs silicone molds

I'm not sure if this question belongs in this forum or not. Why have a wooden mold and go through the trouble lining it when you can get silicone loaf molds? Is it cost? I've also seen silicone within wooden molds. Can someone explain why?

    Unmolding after 48 hrs

Just made my 1st batch. Some soap went into a loaf mold, some went to 4 plastic fish mold. I unmolded and cut the loaf at 24hrs but the fish in the plastic mold is not coming out, even after 48hrs. What should I do? I read putting it in the freezer will help shrink it? How long should it...

    Uneven gelling?

    Uneven gelling?

No fragrance or essential oil was added. After doing some reading here, can it be the temperature of mixing the lye to the oils? I did it when both mixtures were about 115 degrees F.

    Uneven gelling?

I'm new to soap making and just made my 1st batch. After cutting the soap, which has no color or added, I noticed that it looked uneven toned. I know gelling usually is circular, darker in the inside. But mine is randomly uneven. Is this gelling or something else?
