    when do you add superfat?

I did a forum search, "when to add superfat" and got nothing. I'll try harder next time before I post a question.

    when do you add superfat?

I haven't started figuring %'s yet, I'm following recipes. I just started looking at SoapCalc and am ready to start making my own recipes (I think), I just haven't seen anything specific on when to add superfats, and I like to be specific. Please forgive my neophyte questions, but I'm still...

    when do you add superfat?

I've been using castor oil as a superfat and I add it after I mix the oil and lye. The last batch a made traced real fast and it was a race to get it into a mold. I barely got the pigment in and I completely forgot the castor oil. Is it okay to add the superfat with the rest of my oil? I'd like...

    distilled water?

I notice that a lot of people use distilled water. Where I live happens to have excellent tap water thanks to a natural aquifer. Is it still preferable to use distilled water? I plan on selling my soap, does listing distilled water as an ingredient look better than just listing water? Is...

new to the forum, and soap

Sorry I forgot to come back and thank all who welcomed me. Thanks, all who made me feel welcome. And MaitriBB, your cupcake avatar might be the coolest soap I've ever seen.

    question about blueberry soap

Giving up isn't something I wanted to do. My second batch didn't trace but I still poured it into a mold and it did saponify, but I didn't add any fragrance or pigment so it'll be re batched. I didn't want to give up because soap making sounded fascinating from the the first time I read about it...

    question about blueberry soap

Thanks for the tip. All I'm trying to achieve with the blueberry is a nice fragrance and I was curious about mixing scents. I also hadn't thought of dried seeds, and that's a great idea. I'd seen a blackberry recipe and that was one of bonuses, the seeds as an exfoliate. Making soap is still...

    question about blueberry soap

when I first started (a few months ago) all I had was a couple of vague recipes and nobody to talk to about it. I made so many mistakes. Before I realized different oils had different saponification values, I was swapping one oil for another, guaranteeing that it wouldn't work out right. I wish...

    question about blueberry soap

My first batch was 5lbs of shortening, olive and coconut oil with coco butter for a superfat. One of my thermometers was off so my temperatures were off so it didn't trace. This was before I had a stick blender so I optimistically stirred that pot of never tracing goo for over three hours...

    question about blueberry soap

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I'd be embarrassed to say how many experimental batches I've thrown out, but I'm glad you saved me the heartache of having my soap turn gray. I still learn something from every batch, but man am I tired of learning by throwing out expensive oil.

    question about blueberry soap

I want to make some blueberry soap and was wondering if i can puree blueberries and add them. Also, at what part of the process would I want to add it. I'm curious and I haven't seen any good recipes about it.

new to the forum, and soap

I just wanted to say thank you for the excellent resource. I just tried to make my first batch of layered soap, and the molded soap wasn't nearly hard enough when I poured the remaining batch into, instead of on top of the bottom layer. I was going to ask a question but searched the forum first...
