    Disturbing changes in U.S. policy

I know Canada, EU, US & I think China have been in talks about cosmetics and the regulations associated. I believe Canada and the EU have also been in Free Trade talks. I don't know how this is going to affect us but I am hoping we don't go as strict as the EU. Fingers crossed.

    Disturbing changes in U.S. policy

Exactly. Our rule of thumb is that it can't actually change the composition of something such as lightening. You can say conditioning, brightening, reduces the look of wrinkles, etc. All of these claims are cosmetic.

    Disturbing changes in U.S. policy

You can't claim softening? Our rules allow for claims that are strictly cosmetic and do not include any drug or pesticide claims. Good on you for labeling your soap as a cosmetic, it is refreshing considering you don't even have to put ingredients on the label which is so dangerous for the...

    Bug killer/repellent

Stay away from the spices as they will burn/sensitize your skin. Be careful of the citrus oils as they are phototoxic (sun sensitizers).

Milk Soap for toddler and adult with Eczema?

Babies under 6 months should not use honey as their immunity system is unable to handle it. Oatmeal will be too scratchy but you can make it into a milk which would also be soothing. A soap that is high in Olive Oil, around 70%, will cure up nicely in 4 weeks and ready to use. Include other...

    Disturbing changes in U.S. policy

I don't blame you. I can say that the EU is probably one of the hardest places to be compliant considering you need to have your formulas assessed by a Safety Assessor and then have trading standards inspect your premises as well as your scale. On top of that you have to put the allergens on...

Milk Soap for toddler and adult with Eczema?

Try a Goat Milk & Honey soap with a 5% superfat.

    Trying lotions again

It is a misconception that you need your emulsifier at 25% - that would make a cream not a lotion. Yes Stearic thickens which is why, unless you are like the skin feel, I don't recommend stearic acid. Try making your lotion with 5% ewax and then move it up from there. My lotions are usually...

    Disturbing changes in U.S. policy

If you're in Canada and don't know if there is a charge you're not even close to being compliant. I know a lady at a Farmer's Market that wasn't compliant and got shut down until she is plus got a fine . We don't pay any fees to register our products and believe it is beneficial. It does a...

Charging fees is a bit overboard I must say.

log style vs. individual bar molds

I have a 18 bar slab mould with a cutter including the cut guides, way too many individual moulds, 3 x 2 lb log moulds, & 6 x 6 lb log moulds. So needless to say I like a variety but my log moulds are my favourites by far.

    Freezing to preserve bars

Something to think about. When you sell a soap your customer is not going to keep their soap in a freezer so you will want to know if that formula is going to get DOS. Also check where you are curing as you don't want it to be too hot, too cold or too humid.

Using Plastic bucket to make soap

I use the old buckets from oils and butters as my soap making buckets all the time without any problems...

    Freezing to preserve bars

If you are freezing your soap you are not allowing the soap to continue to cure which is continued drying. The nicest soap I've used was one that was years old.

    Thank you for the information.

    For the Beekeepers

Ann I can understand your concerns. This would be the only hive that we would have and we already knew that they need honey to survive the winter as it is their food. At any rate I quite like this idea and from what I saw is the easiest on them physically as you are not disturbing them when...

    For the Beekeepers

Thank you - I am going to start saving up for one because I would love to have honey on tap.

XXX Milk Powder or XXX Milk?

No because if you get into the INCI then it is the same for both (Caprae Lac). It doesn't differentiate between the two.
