    Dried flowers for scent

The only scents that survive are EOs and FOs. Not coffee, tea, flowers, herbs, food products...none of them!

    Soaps for sale for 2.50

If you buy in bulk, then yes it can be. I figure that my recipe for 50 10 oz GM salt bars is roughly $40, give or take, and I sell them each for $6 or 4/$20. Even if I sold them at $2.50, I'd still be ahead. Of course, add in my packaging costs, site costs, business costs, etc. and it'd be a...

    Beginner's Question

I think you are confusing shea in lotions/butter with shea in soap. Butters in soap should never feel greasy if you are soaping correctly. And if they do, it's probably because your fragrance oil is leeching out.

    question on Palm oil-

All oils need to be melted before you soap them. Scoop out what you need, melt it, and soap.

    Quick question!

It's not that the smell is strong, it's that the oil is harsh on the skin. Imagine rubbing Red Hots on your skin...not fun!

    Re-heated soap

Are you sure you didn't just see it as it was gelling? When soap goes through gel, it looks like it is completely liquid again, even if it was a gloppy mess at trace. How much clay did you use? Typically 1 tsp PPO is more than enough. I've used it a lot in soaps and never had any setting...

Was this cut too soon? Is this normal?

Looks just fine to me. I don't think a rebatch would end up looking any different than what you already have. It'd probably end up looking worse!

Help with Body Butter Please :)

Bodhi is correct. I didn't notice the mango part. And really, no matter how fine the mango puree is, it's not going to absorb into the skin like oils or butters. It'd be like smearing baby food onto your skin....yuck! And this is going on after a tattoo? Is this after the skin scabs or right...

Help with Body Butter Please :)

I find that anything with tea tree is going to smell like tea tree even if you try to cover it. Is that what you think the smell is coming from? Glycerin won't act like a preservative in small amounts. You don't technically need a preservative since there's no water in your recipe.

    My milk soap lesson

I use full milk all the time. Sometimes my mixture heats up too fast and ends up looking dark orange, with chunky stuff on top. It's super gross looking. However, each time it looked like that, it ended up turning out the same way my other soaps that remained cool did. I could also never tell...

Body Butter Recipe W/O Scary Additives

I use e-wax in all my lotions and have been pretty happy with that. My "scary" additives now are e-wax and the Phenonip. My recipe will include a blend of several butters (~60%), a bit of my favorite oils (~20%), e-wax (5% or less), lesser amounts of goat milk & water than lotion of course...

Body Butter Recipe W/O Scary Additives

Hey, my dogs get a ton of raw goat milk...that's got to count for something! LOL But really, how essential are the "scary" ingredients?

Body Butter Recipe W/O Scary Additives

Yes! I can't even get out what's unique about the bar they pick up before they're onto the next one! I secretly want to sneak in..."and that one's made with dog poop and farts..." and see if they even hear me.

Body Butter Recipe W/O Scary Additives

No! LOL You have some who sniff and decide based on scent without looking at the label. Some study it like there's a test. Some read the label and freak if there's a word with too many letters. Some read and have no idea what they're even looking for. Alas, I want a quality product that no...

Body Butter Recipe W/O Scary Additives

I have a rather nice product line of lotions already using Phenonip, and since my company is based on my farm's fresh goat milk, I explain that the preservative is necessary. Most understand. I haven't needed stearic or cetyl in the lotions. Since I already have the "scary" Phenonip INCI on the...

Body Butter Recipe W/O Scary Additives

My customers generally don't like to see any ingredient they cannot pronounce. I see lots of body butters have the addition of things like stearic acid, cyclomethicone, cetyl alcohol, etc. While I know what those things are and am not afraid to use them, they send up red flags for my...

    What size bar sells best?

Mine are 10oz salt bars. They are HUGE. But I've gotten great feedback saying they like a bigger bar because most don't last long enough. They sell for $7.50 retail or between $5-$6 on my site.

    Commercial Stick Blender

It works just fine. It's just not long enough to go into a double batch. For 25 bar batches, it's perfect. For larger, it needs to be longer to reach the bottom. I'm tempted to try the drill. It's worth a shot for the price. And if it doesn't work, I haven't lost much!

    Commercial Stick Blender

I'm on the lookout for a commercial grade stick blender. Preferably one that's not several hundred dollars. Business is booming and my little Hamilton Beach has been kicking for 2 years, but it's not long or strong enough for my 50 bar salt bar batches. Any recommendations?

    tomato paste

It looks like it overheated in the center. I bet you'll cut to find a partial gel. Next time, try to force the gel so that doesn't happen. Post pics because I want to see the color. I was sure it would turn brown.
