    All about Hot Process...

The gremlins visited my HP yesterday... I was making a not quite double, but large batch that I was going to divide into "Sex on the Beach" and "Love Spell" (smells just like VS Love Spell perfume!). Well, the "hot" part of HP got me...as I was pouring soap into the mold, the pot hit the...

Rice Bran Oil from my Ag store in Soap?

Yep, it's actually a product for horses. I'll probably be buying some soon for the goats anyway. It's used to fatten up thin animals. I believe it was $17 for what appeared to be a gallon. Not sure on the size because I just looked at it in passing, but it was definitely a decent amount for...

    All about Hot Process...

I've made 2 HP batches so far (one was a double...won't do that again!) and I think I really like it. I find that there are fewer "surprises" than with CP. I also have not had any sweating, separation, or partial gel problems that I can sometimes have with CP. I was trying to do more research...

    favored Fall/Winter Fo's

I just got Macintosh Apple today! Want to wait a month or so to use it since I want it for fall, too. It smells sooo good! Anyone know of any pumpkin FO that doesn't smell too spiced? I don't like when it smells to nutmeg and ginger-y. Or a good banana nut bread? Speaking of which, I should...

Rice Bran Oil from my Ag store in Soap?

I noticed Rice Bran oil at my feed store the other day. I know I can feed it to my goats, but can I soap with it? I'm not sure of the brand. I just passed by and said, "Hmmm...rice bran oil...soap?" Is there a difference between feed quality and cosmetic quality? Does anyone soap with it...

    Pure dairy soap

Don't you get it? SOAP = FATS (oils) + LYE Adding oils is not "cheating", it's necessary. No oils, no soap. Add as lye to as much milk, cream, yogurt, whatever and you will NOT get soap. You will get a sludge that will burn the crap out of you. If you think we're a bunch of "cheaters"...

    Pure dairy soap

I think I get your point. Problem is, it's not "soap" unless there are fats and lye. So you have to add oil to get soap. If not, it's not soap. It's lye mixed with milk. You could do what busymakingsoap said, and add full milk with small amounts of each oil so that you still have milk as the...

Great soap but can't use - photo attached

Does it stain the cloth or does it wash away? I've had soap bleed onto the cloth but rinse right off. Maybe it's not all lost?

Great soap but can't use - photo attached

Can you rebatch it with some other light soaps to maybe even out and lighten the color? It's a shame, too, because it's very pretty!

    Pure dairy soap

Just milk and lye will not make a soap. You need to add oils to actually make "soap". You would end up with just a very stinky caustic liquid if it is only milk mixed with lye.

    CP Soap Swirling

Believe me, PreciousSoaps, I am the same way. The minute soap doesn't turn out the way I imagined, I get all bummed out and feel like a jerk. But lately I've learned to just roll with it. Everyone is different...what you think is ugly, others might find beautiful and vice versa. I'm learning to...

    Lard in Soaps

As much as I hated the idea of using animal fat, you just can't beat the price and quality. I use about 50-70% animal shortening along with OO, CO, PO, SB, CB and it is my favorite recipe yet. There was nothing wrong with the veggie soaps....just not as nice, IMO. I also use goat milk in every...

Beer Soap Great for Father's Day

I wonder if you can use flavored beers. I've used a black and tan with great success...do you think flavored beers would work the same? Will the high sugar content affect it?

    HP with fresh goat milk?

And a pic... ...that does not work. Oh well, I'll mess with it later.

    HP with fresh goat milk?

I did mine on the stove and I thought it was so EASY! Just a whole bunch of stirring and maybe 45 minutes later, my soap was done. I waited about 3 hours to cut, and it even cut like a dream! I used 1/2 strong coffee and 1/2 milk mixed with the lye. When it was looking like mashed...

    Almond Butter?

I saw Almond Butter listed as an oil on soap calc. This made me quite curious. I have some in my refrigerator that I'd love to get rid of. It's a bit chunky, and would probably make for a serious scrub. How do you add it to CP/HP soap? Just the same as an oil? Or could that be an excess fat type...

I'm so confused! What do the numbers mean?!

When I first figured out soapcalc, I'd go crazy trying to get my recipe to fall closest to the middle of all the ranges. I would tweak the recipe 10 times till I finally found numbers that I was happy with. I try that bar next to a bar that I never ran through the calc...and I can't tell the...

    HP with fresh goat milk?

Success! Made a coffee soap that is to die for. I love that I could test it right away! I think I like HP!

    HP with fresh goat milk?

Do you keep your temps lower than if you hadn't used milk? Or just proceed the same way? I might do a half coffee/half milk batch first to see the effect on a half milk batch and go from there. My crock pot did seem to almost burn the milk when I was rebatching, but I think that was because...

    HP with fresh goat milk?

I'm going to try some HP soap today. I'm afraid that all the heat will burn the milk in my recipe. Should I make it 1/2 milk, 1/2 water, and mix the water with the lye, then add the milk later? I don't care so much about color, as I expect it to be a brownish color. I just don't want burned...
