    Celebrating Shredder's Life

Theresa, I feel your pain all to well. You did right by her in the end though. That's all that matters. Our pain will heal, you already cured hers. Hugs to you, and I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

    Whipped Body Butter

Cool! Much easier than melting then cooling everything. I wonder if it hold up better since it has never been melted.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I did the same with my micas. Put labels on top of them so I can tell what is what without picking them up I mean. I have little notes and codes on mine as well. If anything ever happened to me, no one will be able to figure out what the heck I'm talking about on them lol

    Coffee as colorant

Do you mean brewed coffee or coffee grounds? The grounds will leave specks. I actually use coffee grounds in my kitchen sink soap for the pumice effect. Brewed coffee will give a brown color, but it won't be a really dark color. I have tried to infuse the grounds in oil, but it didn't work well...

Those look like fancy cookies! I would be afraid someone would eat one lol

    HELP! Brown Specks?

My concern was the possibility of a non-compatible metal used on the embeds which (from what I understand) could accelerate dos because of the lye reacting with the metals

    HELP! Brown Specks?

Could you give the actual amounts of oils you used please? It makes it much easier to check your recipe and see if that's where the problem lies. What did you use for your mold? What about your embed mold? It almost looks like the start of DOS from the picture. Hopefully with a little more...

My 5th CP, / BB OVER THE RAINBOW

Illinois is the same. You just can't find it here. We actually go one further than OTC meds behind the counter. If you buy a product with pseudoephedrine in it, you actually have to show ID and sign a log. I actually told our drug task force guy I was making soap so I didn't get flagged for my...

Thread titles and my very strange mind.

Fragrance Oil vs. Essential Oil In this corner, weighing in at a whopping 5% PPO Lavender FO. And in this corner at a measly .5%, Lavender EO. This will be an epic battle. There is no love lost between these two contenders. The lids will be off, and it could be a liquid, smelly battle! The...

    FDA Needs Help Defining "Natural"

Since this is for food labels, I'm just wondering how long it will take to cross over to the soap/b&b side.

Do you think you could use one of the large needle meat injector syringes to inject color "tubes" from top to bottom? It would be very time intensive but might give the same effect.

    Trouble with lard soap

Thank you TOMH, I'm going to print this off and put it with my recipe so I remember all this when I make my next lard batch :) Cause there WILL be another one. I'm a big believer in "If at first you don't succeed; try, try again" lol

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yesterday I grated up my flop lard batch to use for a confetti and started the oil infusion for the dandelion salve for bf. I'm not getting very much done lately with everything else I have going on, and I really don't like it very much :( I need some distress me time.

    Rainbow teardrop

That is absolutely gorgeous! I kind of have to agree with Theresa. I'm not very fond of your friend lol. I've got a bad case of the jellies in fact! Lol

    Trouble with lard soap

There aren't any color lines. It was an ITPS. The technique is familiar and all the ingredients except the lard are familiar. Based on Obsidian's post, I would say they sat too long. I waited 24 hours before I tried to cut. I worked and that dang job got in the way of my soaping again lol ETA: I...

    Trouble with lard soap

Well the whole thing was a flop :( When I cut the bars last night, every single one broke into 3 pieces. I'm going to guess I waited too long to cut it. They were also a little zappy at the time, but that seems to have gone away now. Not sure if they broke because they were still cold inside, or...

    Trouble with lard soap

Ah I'm understanding what you're saying now. I'll change things up a bit before I make another batch. Part of why I soaped so cool was because the FO I was using advised soap cool and NOT to gel, or the scent would disappear. I guess I was more concerned with this than with getting my temps high...

    First batch finally done!

Yep pretty much. I never think far enough ahead to open it and let it sit in the fridge for a couple days. Even with that though, there's still no need to simmer for 2 hours. On my gas range, that's a lot of wasted fuel.

My 1st few batches are curing!

They look great! Those rough edges are the "rustic" look everyone talks about lol. You can plane the sides and bevel the edges (and lose soap in the process), or you can embrace the rustic look and work it to your advantage :)

    First batch finally done!

Mine never requires that long either. I slow boil until reduced by about half and it no longer foams when some is poured from a spoon back into the rest. Maybe half an hour or so?
