New to soap making - 1st batch didn't go well, why?

CO is wonderful applied directly to the skin but once it and lye join forces in high amounts the skin is not too found of it (minus the case of salt bars but I won't go there since you are just starting out). All soap cleans regardless of the larger but the higher your cleansing number, the more...

How would I make this diagonal pattern?

Tilting the mold at a 45 degree angle would help achieve a diagonal look. Essentially how it is done in this soaping 101 video just minus the alternating of the colors. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EX-uLftdS_Y

Soap for this winter in Thailand :)

So smooth and creamy looking, love it! And your soap presenter is lovely as well. Here in Ohio in the US our weather motto is "just wait five minutes" or "the only place you can experience all four season in one week!". About two weeks ago we went from autumn, to summer/spring, to winter...

Sanity check on lotion bar cost

Are you making a total of 6 bars or 2? I thought it might have been 2 bars because you had two labels on there. If it is six bars are 2 ounces each then the amount of oils listed is not enough. The amount of oils: 1.5oz beeswax, 3oz mango, and 3oz avocado is only 7.5 ounces, not 12ounces.

Sanity check on lotion bar cost

Math is not my strongest subject (I just got excited because I got a 75% on my latest math mid-term). But, here it goes: 1.5oz beeswax You bought 3oz for $3.00 to that equals $1.00 per ounce. So multiply 1.5 by $1.00 and get $1.50 3 oz Mango Butter $7.91 for 16 oz You bought 16oz for...

    Thick soda ash

I agree with the others, I think it looks lovely (though it might not to you). I have sold several with heavy ash and customer's don't question it. Some of the ones with heavy ash they have even said they were some of the prettier soaps on my table.

    Need to Vent!

Back with an update. I was able to make back my booth fee and $43 so the weekend wasn't a total wash. I did not end up talking to the organizers due to the fact I talked to another vendor who also was selling wax melts and she had already voiced her concerns to them. She was advised this was...

    Need to Vent!

I really appreciate everyone's responses to this whether or not I agree with the advice. For the two days it was $50.00 to rent the booth space. Not a huge chunk of change and yesterday I had $36 in sales so if I make another $14 today I at least have my booth fee covered. The money aspect is...

    Need to Vent!

Today, the DH and I worked out booth at a craft show. We had never done this one but from the application it sounded like it would be a nice one. It was juried as I had to send in photos and wait to be accepted. It is a two-day event (my first two-day one) so I will have to be back tomorrow...

WSP Lilac in Bloom is pretty spot on. I had a lot of customers over the summer say how much it smelled like true lilac.

    Perfume Base Help

Yes, I agree should have went smaller :) I used the 91% alcohol. I even tried doing just the DPG and cyclo and that is where I got the separation and still did so after adding the FO. I would like one that is capable of roll on and spray. I think I will just have to get some poly 20. Also would...

    Perfume Base Help

I think I put this in the right spot, but if not please move :) Anyway, I have been trying to create a roll on spray perfume for awhile. I came across this one from Soap Queen http://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/new-year-new-fragrance-tutorial/ I got the ingredients and attempted...

Honey Bunny (the Lush dupe) from NG discontinued?

You can always email them or message them on Facebook. They are usually pretty quick to respond and let you know if they no longer carry it or might have re-named it.

    Soap Calc & Recipes

The water could be off because the recipe the person posted might have used a water discount. Soap calc has a standard water amount when you plug in the numbers at 38%. You can play around with that to see if you can get it to match the amount on the recipe that you found.

I want to try make my first salt bar-help please!

What part of the numbers do you think were off? Also, can you provide the link to the recipe that you wanted to use so that can be reviewed? Salt bars shouldn't be insulated and usually are able to be unmolded and cut after a couple of hours. They harden up way faster than a normal batch.
