    IBN Thoughts

Currently have HSCG insurance but looking for something cheaper when I renew. Anyone have Indie Beauty Network membership and if so, do you like it?

    Time To Donate!

Twinsies! Lol that's funny. I am sure yours is just fine. This one was a mysterious disappearing recipe soap so I didn't want to sell it :)

    Time To Donate!

I thought about doing that but they have wacky hours to drop off and does not work with my work schedule. I'll save the rest that I wasn't able to pack in for them and try to schedule time off of work to do so. Regardless, it still helps someone in need :)

    Time To Donate!

Well, finally got around to packing up the hundreds of failed, uglies, and missing recipe bars laying around. 277 bars are being shipped off to Clean the World and I am sure another 100+ soon. Amazing out of all of these only a less then ten bars looked to have DOS forming and I know they are a...

    Thoughts on BTMS-50

I am reading up on liquid lotion making as right now I make anhydrous lotion sticks. I like them for their convenience factor but seem to always be a little on the greasy side. I am just wondering how would someone explain to a customer about BTMS-50 being skin safe (I would obviously use the...

    grrrr... fragrances that don't stick!!

I can chime in on NG Rain Barrel: I did two ounces in a 48oz batch and it sticks like the dickens. I know this soap is 6+ months old and it is still really strong. A lot of people love it :)

    Sunflower or Safflower?

Thanks Irish and DeeAnna. I had tried looking early in my soap making for them but didn't know the difference about the fats and was just looking for it to say it on the label, so that is really good to know. Right now the conditioning is a 54 and that is just with castor, palm, PKO, and olive...

    Sunflower or Safflower?

Looking to add either or of these oils to my main recipe to up the conditioning. Does one have better benefits over the other? Also, anyone have luck finding them in HO versions in big box stores or warehouses? Want to get a small bottle this weekend to throw in a batch.

Dendritic salt for super hard bars?

Got some DS and fired away! Used 2tbsp (might be overkill) in a 2lb batch vs 2tbsp in a 2lb batch of SL. I did see a difference in the hardness as well as when cleaning my tools. The SL one (tools with soap on them a week old, I procrastinate) came off way easier the the ones with DS. Does this...

    Almost There!

A couple of months ago there was a small challenge (http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=45731&highlight=Secret+feather+swirl) and I sadly attempted it then. My first attempt no longer lives on because the FO morphed in to something horrible that even rebatching and using another FO...

    100 % Natural Or Not

Was selling yesterday at a winery festival and a lady asked me if my soap was all natural. I used to dread that question the first couple times it was asked to me, but now it doesn't bother me. I simply tell them "no, we do not make that claim." I keep it short and sweet, allow them to see all...

    Why did this happen?

Could be many reasons and without your recipe it is hard to determine.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Or twice, like me :( Once in my beginnings of CP I added warm sugar water to my lye and there she blew! That was a little over a year ago. Then, I just did it last week making a beer soap. I was adding the lye slowly and got to a little left so I poured it on in and it was enough to get it...

Dendritic salt for super hard bars?

I'll just have to get it from WSP then. I use sodium lactate so I would love to see I notice a difference.

Dendritic salt for super hard bars?

I would love to try it and see if I have the same results. Do you know if it is sold in stores (like Walmart, or a big box store) or does it need to be purchased through a supplier? I see BB and WSP carry it.

Dendritic salt for super hard bars?

I have nothing scientific to add but just interested in this one. Does it help with unmolding easier?

    rebatching

Unlike Susie, curiosity rules: why are you rebatching a successful CP batch?

    Wonderful pine tar soaps!

So help me soap gods! Sorry, had to do it :)!!!!!

Ever feel that the FO reviews on vendor websites is bogus?

I love NG for all the info they give! Since I have so many of their FOs I forget which one does what in soap so I have that PDF saved in my bookmarks on my phone so when I'm soaping and grab a random FO, I can quickly look it up. When buying from NG I just go off their info on the oil but other...

    Potentially Botched Batch?

Yes, just melt it down in a crock pot or stainless steel pot in the oven until it gets down to an applesauce consistency. Add the milk or water slowly until it makes it playable. If it zaps then it means it is lye heavy so yes, you want to add an oil (preferably the one that might be missing the...
