You won't have to be as specific as with the soap, by any means. But to get the right "hardness/softness" you might want to follow a general rule of thumb. I do 1 part oils, 1 part butters and 1 part wax with just a little modification because I use candelilla wax, and it is much harder than...

Definetly cutting too soon causes problems, and using a wire is so much smoother than a knife IMHO, but remember to wipe it occasionally to clear away any debris that will cause drag lines in your soap.

Sometimes when oils seperate from fresh soap they will absorb back into it, if given time. But what would worry me about this batch is the dark circle that this "pool" is in the center of. I don't know what others will suggest, but I'd give it time to re-absorb, see what you get into when you...

I love sprinkling herbs, or oats on tops of fresh made soaps. Another one that's pretty and always holds it's color (even when added to soap) is calendula petals.
