    bulk shortening from restaurant depot

the brand name is "so-fleece" homogenized shortening. the ingredients are listed as "tallow and vegetable oils". anyone with any experience w/ this? I'm thinking just soapcalc it as GV shortening as i can't find any more info about its percentage of animal to veg fats.

    old soap in new batch

my original rose scented bars just didn't smell enough. i figured I'd cut it into small cubes and use it as imbeds in a new batch. my questions are: will there be any issues with cutting the new batch? like will the old soap soften up to match the new batch? or will i be cutting hard old soap...

    not exactly re-batch

can one take a fully cured bar or bars and chop or shave or mince or whatever those bars and just mix in to a new batch of soap?

    Mold Making-Quick & Dirty

i made a mold similar to yours but the long sides fold down. if you get any kind of sticking an the short sides just use a bench knife or something to pop it of the loaf of soap. it is also so much easier to line with sheet pan parchment.

do salt(ed) bars always stay crumbly?

tried another batch w/ salt in it. last batch was honey/almond/goat-milk and i added 20% ppo kosher at medium trace. the result was not to bad. i don't think it fully dissolved, but that's OK. this batch was less salt, 15-16%, canning/pickling salt. i ruined the first 3-4 bars until i took it...

    minimum cure time

what is the general consensus for a minimum cure time from cutting to using and/or selling? i know that may be two different time spans and different for specific soaps (Castile).

    shortening from save alot

? smart and final? is that a grocery store? save alot is a small chain that carries limited brand selection, like you only have 2 choices of mustard or ketchup or stuff like that. not a plethora of brands like a big grocery. i don't know how far they range outside of Missouri.

    shortening from save alot

i didn't get any just happened to see it on the shelf when i was picking up lard. i looked on soapcalc and there was not any reference to it. if i could sub it for the walmart stuff, save a few cents and not support walmart thats win win.
