Why am I getting weird air pockets on my soap?

Sometimes I get it with a high CO recipe, those get really hot.

Help please on my first salt bar recipe

OK, I've searched the forum, but I'm not finding the answer - - can someone explain why you would use a salt bars /brine bar, and what are the differences between the two?

    On the hunt for....

Try New Directions Aromatics. There's a $100 minimum order, but it's easy to get there if you're stocking up on fragrances.

OT - good knitting forum for beginner?

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/soap-sock You'll need a set of size 6 double pointed needles. I use Lily Sugar 'n Cream yarn for these. ETA: if you want one that dries out, I like Red Heart scrubby yarn. But I don't think I could knit with it, I crochet those.

    Soap Curing Storage

Had to share this - - It's a shoe rack, but it works great for soap storage! The best part is the slats are just wide enough that my round soaps fit just right vertically. Saves me a ton of space. I can get four rows of soap on each shelf. Furinno FNCJ-33005 Pine Solid Wood 4-Tier Shoe Rack...

    Is this bad?

Yep, my soap dishes are always oily if I wash them within a day or two of soaping. I think a week is about right to let them sit and finish becoming soap. Then it rinses right off.

    Question for dog owners

It's not as bad as it sounds, I make a batch that lasts over a month. I do spend less time making healthy people food though :).

    Question for dog owners

Read up on rawhides, those things can be full of nasty chemicals. I fed them to my old dog every day, not knowing any better. I now feed my dogs all fresh food, we get "dog food" from the local butcher, it's a mix of heart, lungs, etc that they can't sell as people food. We mix in steamed...

    Question for dog owners

For treats, I dehydrate a mixture of hamburger and fruit that I put in a blender. Or baked sweet potatoes and pumpkin. Just mix it all up together, then I put in a zip lock bag, cut off the corner, and put it on the dehydrator trays in strips. For longer lasting chews, bully sticks, yak...

    I got a dog!!!

Oh, and one more thing you might want to get is a harness. These tiny dogs have fragile necks, and a regular collar can harm them. When I forget the harness, especially if she pulls on the collar, she coughs for about a week afterwards.

    The lye concentration experiment

As a fellow scientist, I find this fascinating! I'm going to try higher lye concentrations now, just for less soda ash. How does the different concentrations affect trace? Is it hard to get a light trace with the 40% solution?

    I got a dog!!!

We just scrape a path on the patio and a spot on the grass for our chi. She hates the cold, but she'll still go outside to potty. And then come right back in and snuggle on my lap for warmth!

    My latest "Ione swirl" attempt

I attempted this. Unfortunately I didn't follow the advice to use a well-behaving fragrance, so it was a medium to thick trace by the time I started pouring. I like what I ended up with, but it's not quite as wispy as I wanted.

    First-Wash Phenomenon

I think it's oxidation, from exposure to air. Our maybe just really dry soap doesn't lather as well. Dang it, now I have to do some research to see if I can figure it out. [emoji53]

    For sewers (people who sew)

If you want one that's a pure workhorse, I got a Juki 2010Q a couple years ago. Zero electronic components, so nothing that's likely to fail! It sews through everything, I opted for one that doesn't even do zigzag stitch, so I don't get very many broken needles either. This one is specifically...
