What do you use to line your mould?

I actually found freezer paper today... couldn't find it in the "city" (Edmonton) but I went to our local store (tiny town) and there was a big roll. I was SO excited to see it! So now I'll make soap happily tomorrow knowing I don't have to fight with plastic wrap and wax paper :D (I'm easily...

BIG buckets of palm... errr... how to melt down?

LMAO! No hot tub here, but I wonder if the sauna would work. No one uses it anymore for sauna-ing. Hrm. I'll ask hubby tonight.

FCO massage oil for DH's sore muscles

Never mind that last question, going on too little sleep! Is the EO amounts ok?

FCO massage oil for DH's sore muscles

Would grapeseed work in a pinch or is it too heavy?

Cut Lemongrass, now with stearic spots!

Thank you! I've had oodles of air bubbles (and this one has a couple) in many batches, this is a new thing for me - I'm using PO from a 5 gallon bucket and I need to melt it down and stir it up well. If it happens again AFTER I've done that, I'll soap hotter (I'm in a much, much colder and dryer...

FCO massage oil for DH's sore muscles

I bought FCO specifically to make a replacement for the mineral oil bath stuff DH uses to combat his insanely dry skin (works the oil patch, 12-20 hour days for weeks on end) and I got thinking when he came home last night after a 17 hour day and seeing how sore he was that I've got everything...

Cut Lemongrass, now with stearic spots!

Definitely need to stir that palm (I posted in the CP section) before I use it again. Thankfully this is for personal/family use! (click for bigger) Also need to practice product photography but I was going to quick lol

    so is it soap?

Your first batch is giving you lots of lessons to learn from - always measure your fragrance. Too much can cause skin irritation or worse, too little will fade in the soap before it's used. .5oz-1oz per pound of oils used is normal.

    so is it soap?

My own nature is extremely impatient. Soap making requires more than I have, but I make it work. What I did at the start was a few batches of CP and then HPed a couple. CP allowed me to learn the basics and then I followed a tutorial (like http://smftutorials.com/drupal/how-to-make-cphp-soap)...

    New supplies

It didn't get a complete gel, but got to the very outer edges (I'll insulate next time, first time using this mold) but it got nice and hard so I couldn't resist cutting it last night. I'm in love with the tank now, 15 bars of soap with no freaky angled edges (pictures later, kids woke me up too...

    Eye Protection -

I've discussed my reasons for protection (or lack of it) so I won't go there again, but THIS^ would make me lose my *$@! at the poster of the video. I'd probably contact youtube and see if it could be removed. NO ANIMALS OR KIDS IN THE SOAP AREA/ROOM.

    BAD olive oils!

Try popping them in the freezer for a couple hours if you're sure it's hardened up. It's the only way I can get my olive oil soaps out of the mold (without tearing them up) without waiting over a week.

    so is it soap?

If you left out an oil, the lye amount HAS to be adjusted. Get familiar with Soap Calc http://www.soapcalc.net/calc/SoapCalcWP.asp In this case, you've still got a superfat of about 8% but just leaving out oils without recalculating the lye amount can leave you with a lye heavy soap...

The weekend of the soap! many photos

Making sure my salt soap gelled made it much harder, much faster as well. :) All your soaps looks fantastic, I think I like the banana one the best, followed by the first one! Nice work :)

    Where to get lye?

http://www.creationsfromeden.com is good, I just picked up my first order of lye from them Friday, and used it this morning, not a thing wrong with it. :)

BIG buckets of palm... errr... how to melt down?

I like both ideas, thank you both! I think I'll try krissy's idea first for one reason - we have 9 people in the house and the hot water heater only lasts so long. I'd have 8 ticked off, stinky, people if I used that much hot water LOL Depending on how business goes, after we've built our house...

BIG buckets of palm... errr... how to melt down?

I'd like to melt down these 5 gallon buckets of palm oil to stir in any separated stearic acid... but I have no idea how. Any practical ideas for someone not-yet set up for this?
