    First attempt @ gradient soap

First time trying to do a gradient soap. Gosh that's harder than I expected! Of course I had to make it harder on myself by putting a DIY lace mat on the bottom and a black mica pencil line. Would have like the pencil line to be super straight, but the batter was pretty thick by then. Tallow...

    Oats & Honey Soap

I've got to get that mold! I'm a beek (shortspeak for beekeeper) and would love to make soaps for my beekeeping pals. These are bee-yoo-ti-ful, Navaria!

    packaging rant

That's a neat trick, thanks for sharing. I thought the FO or EO might soak into something made of wood or bamboo, and I'm kinda OCD about not losing any of that fragrance, so I'm thinking maybe use a plastic swizzle stick.....or then again, maybe not---I suppose the plastic could melt a little...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I have the same experience as cmzaha - my dog shampoo bar has 20% Neem, and at first I thought I was going to have to throw it out, it smelled so bad! But thank goodness I didn't. After 6 weeks, the scent was tolerable, and now after 12 weeks, all of us who wash the dog agree that it's the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made this DIY silicone lace mat from some bridal applique lace that I really wanted to see in soap someday. "Someday" just may be tomorrow, as I can hardly wait to try it ou!

    Added glycerin seizing/reacting with lye?

Thanks, Seawolfe, for these thread links. They are very much an eye-opener. I've been "inflicting" my soaps on family and friends for awhile now, and most of the feedback I get is very positive and encouraging. So much so that they - more often than not - say something like, "Wow, you know...

    Photos of where you soap

Sorry Robert, I soap all over the place. My oils are on the floor of my clothes closet, my scents are in a plastic Rubbermaid set of drawers next to my bed, colorants are in a similar set of drawers on the other side of the bed, my tools, additives and NaOH are in cubbies in a wall-mounted...

    Definition of "mildness"?

OMG!!! I just did this exactly as you said with a bar of an "ugly" soap I did over 3 months ago. I'd put it away with others that I intend to grate up someday. After 30 minutes and 3 washings it's as though I just put lotion on, not washed my hands 3 times! The light bulb is officially...

    Definition of "mildness"?

Thank you both for your insights. I am definitely going to add these notes to my recipe files. Chuckling here bec I already don't need much excuse to visit my soaps at frequent intervals, and now I gotta bonafide scientific excuse to.

    Definition of "mildness"?

I'm not the most sensitive soap tester (I seem to love just about anything that lathers), so please see if you can give me a good description of what "mildness" means when talking about cured soap. I understand the saponification that needs to take place during the initial cure time, and then...

    Salt/Spa Bars... Any tips?

Robert, ditto what dixiedragon said about individual molds. But making brine bars, or Soleseife, can easily be cut from a loaf mold, if a loaf is more to your liking.

So what are YOUR soapy secrets?

I visit "My Preciouses" on the curing rack several times a day, but if anyone comes in while I'm there, I pretend I came for something else. I adore my family members, but when I'm soaping I hate them. Especially if they speak. Being asked, "Hi Mom, how's it going?" as they walk in is just...

    Soaping videos on YouTube

I watched those videos, DeeAnna, and wanted to thank you for doing them, especially since there is so little that's readily available on the topic. I was glad of your explanations of what is happening chemically during the process. Also, you have a very practical and no-nonsense "presence"...

    Brambleberry FO sale

I adore Salty Mariner for my salt bars, but be forewarned and plan ahead - a big accelerator. Juicy Couture is also a fave. I've used it in bot cp and liquid glycerine Castille soaps with no problems.
