SMF June Challenge - Mosaic Soaps

Haha, BattleGnome, I'm glad you asked this question! I was thinking of perhaps the same use for a transparent tile....

What soapy thing have you done today?

Teresa, I'd be very interested in how you like this soap. I have very small amounts of mango butter, kokum butter, and cocoa butter that I need to use up. Over time, they've come in as free samples from somewhere or another, and I've just never gotten around to testing them out. Lard, castor...

    Discouraged

Well, I'm breathing a little easier! And laughing a lot, too. Thanks to all who weighed in with reassurances. Here are my takeaways: 1) easy or zero on the mint 2) consider a 0% cleansing bar --- this seems like a great idea and I've been meaning to try it 3) Shea butter may be a suspect...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'll say they pop! Just curious, why won't you be gifting them? Are you going to hog them all? lol My granddaughter (age 6) would spend all day in the bathtub with these as buddies.

    Discouraged

TEG, "drying" wasn't one of their complaints, it was mostly the stinging, and the rash. Their water isn't particularly hard. But for myself, I've since reduced CO in my soaps to <20% because even I can tell when a soap feels drying, and CO is usually the culprit.

    Discouraged

***sigh*** I'm so discouraged today. I love making soap, and I want to keep doing it, but I just had a setback that makes me want to throw all my soaps out and hide my face. Maybe I'm over-reacting and throwing the baby out with the bath water. Can you help me sort it out and find a way...

SMF May Challenge- Interpretation, not Imitation

Well done everyone! I don't know about the rest of you, but it was wayyyyy too hard to choose just three to vote for. Congrats to Saponista and dibbles, not to mention EVERYONE who entered  I'm beyond honored to be among you all.

    Weekend soaps

Wonderful soaps! I love your ghost swirl and want to try it with a solid color like you did. Been biting my nails trying to figure out how to get both batches colored exactly the same so the swirl is accomplished only by the differing lye concentrations. Thanks so much for showing it can be...

1st RIMMED SOAP yikes! (10th CP)

Yeah, I'm a little worried by that 170 degree oven, too, but you were following the tutorial, right? Can't wait to see the soap! The rim looks gorgeous. And your comments about the proper uses for the oven had me rolling

    Fragrance Destash-Some Supplies too

Thank heaven you are too far away for me to jump all over this! I have adopted a new mantra: "no new fragrances, no new fragrances..." but it doesn't seem to be working all that well. A 12 step program probably wouldn't work all that well, either.

    Natural colorants to use

Can all the colors in this palette all be made in cp soap using "natural" colorants? From top to bottom, this is what I think I can use, with blanks that hopefully some of you can fill in for me: 1. Some kind of clay? 2. Some kind of clay? 3. Cocoa powder? 4. ? 5. Indigo powder 6...

    Mouse Proofing Drying/Curing Rack

^^^exactly right^^^ What Teresa said. We've mouse-proofed our chicken coop with this stuff, kept great ventilation inside th coop by covering all gaps and eaves with it. I'm jealous. Not only would it be heavenly to have a separate soaping room, but you get to have it in a barn!

    Mascara Wands

Geez this is such a great hack, thanks for posting! I'll bet they're great for decorator icing tips, too.

    Tips for this technique, anyone?

To all, and particularly penelopejane---I just received the June GreatCakes Soap Challenge info, and interestingly enough, the technique is "Sculpted Layers" using cardboard or plastic cutout shapers. She also uses TD mixed with pearlized mica sprinkled on each layer after spritzing with water...

    Look What We Found!

I don't know of any chick quite as adorable as quail. Hard to believe breath life exists in such a tiny fluff ball! Yes, pictures, please!

    Tips for this technique, anyone?

Where are those accelerating FO's when you need 'em?! Usually I'm trying to avoid a thick trace, so now that I'm trying to achieve it, what do you want to bet the batter will stay thin forEVER?

    Tips for this technique, anyone?

Thanks houseofwool. I've used this method with good success. It's the best way I know of to get the color intensity to reduce at an even pace as you add the same amount of soap base to each succeeding layer.

    Tips for this technique, anyone?

I like the cardboard cutout idea! I think I'll give that a shot. And I'm definitely going to try a light dusting of mica, I think that's how they got those ridge lines to pop.

    Tips for this technique, anyone?

I couldn't get this soap off my mind since newbie posted it last week in the "browsing soap pics" thread, so I decided it will be my next soap attempt sometime next week. Having done a gradient soap somewhat successfully with straight lines and a thin pourable batter, I was wondering about how...
