SMF Soap Making Challenge: September Discoloring FO

I have already made 3 batches and it was challenging indeed. All three have hit the trace very fast, with the first two being uber quick (or even soap on a stick in case of a vanilla-scented part of the batter). I have the third attempt sitting in the mold so I will not make it on time and since...

    Clay

Spice, my favourite way to add clay (no lumps, whiteish effect with a bit of TD) is creme kaolin, which I have described somewhere in a separate thread. Results are lovely and the amount of clay incorporated quite generous. edit: I have found th thread...

    Cosmeceuticals, your experience

I support the sunscreen. We have the whole commuńity of skincare maniacs in Poland and the rule of thumb is to use sunscreen as a must, and if you want to reverse the time or erase some of the past mistakes ;), add some serum with antioxidants in the morńing under the sunscreen and retinol for...

    Cosmeceuticals, your experience

I have a small laboratory ;) aside from soapmaking accesories and perfume making suplies. I am 32 and have skin in quite good condition (but I have been a heavy smoker for over 15 years), dry on my body and slightly acne-prone on the face, where I also have some redness on the cheeks. I...

    Question about using squeeze bottles

I have bottles with removable caps. I clean them as much as I can with paper towels so that not much raw soap is left. I allow the rest to harden and once it is already soap, I pour very hot water inside them and leave overnight to soak. The cleaning is possible then quite easily :)

Lavender guru's needed - so many EO's to choose from - what is what here?

Not a guru here either, but I have some thoughts. I think lavandin brings a bit less of aromatherapeutical value, I have read that is does not heal wounds as well as lavender eo (any type), however it shares similar qualities in terms of relaxation. Lavandin is also cheaper and from my...

Ylang Ylang - can anyone explain the smell?

there is a great note identification project thread on the basenotes forum and concerning ylang ylang the impressions are as in the link: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/231424-Ylang-Ylang-Cananga I personally dislike the smell, made a batch with eo once as a single scent and threw it away...

    1st SMF Soap Challenge- July

I agree with you! Overswirling is something mentioned above; you probably know that wild thought : "I will just swirl a little bit more and see what happens...". Well, I did :D p.s. I did not sign for the Great Cakeworks challenge, I have felt I did not like the rules being ignored sometimes so...

    1st SMF Soap Challenge- July

Oh dear. I have just had a BIG DRAMA attempt! :) I aimed at something totally different, but my Jasmine FO accelerated (it was from behawe.com and was supposed not to cause troubles, but of course I should have tested it before...). I added FO to the light green base only and pipetted my...

Thank you all! It was loaf and an idea to frame it is EXACTLY what happened - my parents looked at each other and claimed they will never ever use it :)

    conditioning soap

terr, my basic well lathering recipe would be: 20% coconut (if I use more, it is not that conditioning) 35% hard oils/butters such as lard and/or palm oil 38% soft oils such as olive oil or 28%olive oil with 10% high oleic sunflower 7% castor And then I'd use sugar - 5% calculated on the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I have unmoulded schnauzer decorated batch prepared for my parents as a gift for their wedding anniversary. They have two salt and pepper dogs which I have tried to paint on the soap :) The one on the left does not look very bright and clever due to the eyes being so close to each other, but I...

Lavender EO in CP-- does it die or just weaken?

I agree wth the great suggestion of clary sage, I also add a tiny bit of patchouli eo to anchor scent. It lasts. But I also usually blend lavandin eo with lavender eo, because I have the feeling (which I cannot prove ;)) that the lavandin it lasts longer in soap. And it is cheaper as well.

    Kaolin Creme Soap

I think that apart from the looks she enjoys minimized risk of TD rivers and also a different feeling of the soap. I have unmolded and cut (no beveling yet so the pics are rough, sorry) my batch. It is very fresh. 1. Looks: In the main part of the soap I have used a FO which discolors to...
