If i was only using those oils I would change that recipe to:
50% Olive Oil
40% Coconut oil
5% sunflower
5% Castor
And have a 10% superfat
The high super fat will stop the higher amount of coconut oil from drying out your skin and you will get a much harder bar. If you go to high with...
Yeah. There's a lot of info like that out there. You can technically use any soap using any.method after a week or two, but It won't be any good, it'll dry up your skin and it will go down your drain real fast ;P
I'm glad you asked before making it and using it to soon :)
And it doesn't speed the cure up. Its not really a short cut. It still takes 4-6 weeks to cure. And it still takes 6 months min. For castile. I'm not really sure why every one says that because I've tried every "shortcut" out there and they weren't short cuts at all. No one says that if you gel...
HP has always come out smooth for me
It is similar to rebatching. It basically just forces the soap to gel before you put it in the mold. I only ever do it with my cleaning soap, rebatching (I always add 50% fresh soap to my rebates to he'll smooth out the texture) and castile soaps to help...
I would like to challenge you fellow soapers to make a Simon and Garfunkel inspired soap! Im going to set the due date for August 5th so if anyone is low on ingredients they have time to gather all their things and plan :) Ive already made one but Im totally game to do another. Any one interested?
Will do :)
I know what you mean it took me a couple months to decide what method I was going to do, you'll have to post pictures when you decide on a design :) I'd love to see more Simon and Garfunkel inspired soaps
Yay! First soap I've had a chance to do in a month! I'm actually pretty impressed with the results. I decided to try the "dandelion zebra swirl" posted on soaping 101 because its the only video on there that's caught my attention in quite some time.
I'm calling this one Scarborough fair named...
As soon as I finish making a soap I pull out up a blank soap chart on excel wich has all of my soap supplies on there and how much each thing costs
I fill out everything i used and how much (it then calculates how much each ingredient cost me) how much time it took me to prepare and all that fun...
I had that problem before I started using lard. It just seemed so strange to me. But one night i was determined to get over it and got a tub of lard out and started soaping with it. Now i cant soap without it! :)
lard, Olive oil, Coconut oil, Castor. i like to add other oils to that mix, but all my recipes have some combination of those. i absolutely love the turn out.
if the oil is light in color it helps make a white bar
Coconut, shea, castor, sunflower, Olive oil (not EVOO), Lard and other animal fats, etc.
so no hemp, EVOO, nut butters, etc
the more i learn about GMOs the more i dont like them. Im about to give all my GMO oils to my mom because i dont even want to soap with them anymore.
I would melt the coconut oil your wanting to infuse and mix it with 1/2 Olive oil or another soft oil so it stays soft.
or if its crazy hot out...
My favorite oils are a combination of: Lard, Olive oil, Coconut oil, and Castor oil. i usually stick to those and add butters and other oils accordingly but my favorite recipes have all those oils in there. Makes THE BEST bars ive ever tried or made.
