Is this bay laurel berry oil?

By chance I found a supplier for bay laurel berry oil and I thought, why not, so I bought a 100g bag for 5 euros to try making a small batch of Aleppo styled soap. It arrived a couple of days ago but I'm not sure it's the real thing I've got. If I understand it correctly the real bay laurel...

    Experimental coffee

Oh! Zany's comment reminded me of something I read about adding bar chocolate to soap, if it is melted and stirred in after the cook the scent will remain after cure. So chances are coffee stirred in after cook will remain too. Or maybe use coffee oil/ infused oil as the superfat after cook...

    Best hard oils for soap

Well, I played around a little on soapee and this is what I came up with, all property numbers are within range: Coconut 20% Olive 30% Rapeseed 10% Shea 40% I have made testing soaps before with a similar recipe but with 30% Shea, same coconut amount and higher soft oils and that one...

    Hair Mask

I don't know if it's too late now but wouldn't swiftcraftymonkey's conditioner recipes be a good starting point for a hair mask?

    Rancid Smell

Is it possible that you haven't made/used handmade soap before and is mistaking the soap smell for rancid smell? I know I thought my soaps smelled wierd when I just started making soap even though there wasn't anything wrong with them.

    Lots of questions, rosin soap

I've heard some peoples saying they are similar, but I really don't know. Cool though!

    Piping method and CPOP

When CPOPing you preheat the oven to 65C, put the soap in the oven and turn it off. Let the soap sit in the oven an hour or two or even over night if you like, before you take it out. I'm pretty sure CPOP won't make the piping lose it's shape. And soda ash has nothing to do with trace, if...

    Shampoo bars with tar?

Maybe something like this might help? http://www.livestrong.com/article/183648-how-to-use-sulfur-powder-for-hair/ Sulfur apparently is good for a lot of skin problems too. Someone here linked it to me and while I haven't tested it myself yet, I plan to.

    Hair Mask

I remember the first time I made a hair mask several years ago that among other included a mashed banana... Never gain will I put veggies in my hair! I had small banana lumps in my hair for days! I imagine if you decide to use eggs in your mask, make sure to remove the membranes since they might...

    Tea Tree EO + ??

I've never even attempted formulating fragrances with tea tree since I don't like it either, but herby things is what I've heard from others too. Rosemary, mint, sage, lemongrass, even eucalyptus maybe?

    Lots of questions, rosin soap

Okay, so I have some resins(aloes, damar, sanderac, benzoin, rosin, mastic, copai) i bought intended to make incense, then I realised that wasn't my thing, so now I'm trying to figure out something else to do with it. All in all I only have about 150g so it's not a huge amount, but I want to...

    Advice, constructive criticisms

Congratulations on your first soap! The first one is always the scariest one  I think take 30% of the coconut and add that amount in some hard oil like Palm/lard/tallow/shortening or maybe even some other butter. Also have you tried formulating with any soap calculator that shows...

    Advice in colorants/oils

I don't have that much experience with colours in HP soap but I'm pretty sure micas and oxides would work fine regardless of when in the soap making process you add them. The same with clays. You can put quite a bit of foody additives, including tea, in soap without it going bad, e.g I heard...

making liquid Castile soap with bar castile soap

You will grate it Up and dissolve it in hot water, but nobody really recommends it since the bar soap will separate out of the water or in other ways won't achieve a good result. You are better off making your own liquid soap from scratch or just buy the commercial stuff.

What do I do with these?

Honestly we don't even have much of those either. The most bothersome critters I've come across is what my mother calls "suer mosquitos", they are only active a couple of weeks in the spring and then they are gone. But there won't be a a day you wake up without a couple of new bites. And...

What do I do with these?

Oh, I didn't know that, I've only ever heard GSE being marketed as a preservative that actually doesn't really work. But that's awesome, thank you! I've tried glycerin in lotion actually and I have to say I didn't like it, but if it's fine as an antioxidant than all is good! I was...
