    Label Printing

I use the Avery labels as well. They seem to work the best with my laser printer. The store brand labels ALWAYS seem to jam my printer. Since I don't sell, I use the free Avery "Design and Print" software. It is a free download available from www.avery.com. It's simple to use and...

    Poison Ivy

My grandmother used to do the same as your father...pop the blisters with a needle and then wash/soak the affected area with a STRONG solution of bleach. As I recall it did seem to clear it up. She also swore by Lysol, the liquid kind that came in the brown bottle. I'm not sure if they even...

    Design Trial

That is GORGEOUS, Kittish! I think we need a tutorial. :)

    Finding rice bran oil?

Try www.ricelandstore.com . The cost is $7.60 per gallon with $5.00 flat rate shipping. I'm in Florida, and it usually takes about a week to get my order. I can't beat that price. I haven't seen RBO anywhere locally; except health food stores, and it was extremely pricy for a very small bottle.

    Basic Fragrance

I like Nurture's Satsuma Orange. It's a straight up citrus scent, and it's not too complex. I think it smells fresh, invigorating, and clean. It doesn't accelerate, but it does discolor a slight yellow. Also some folks; myself included, think that it causes the soap to stay soft in the mold...

    First batch recipe+FO supplier preferences

Everyone here has given you great advice! Truthfully though, the only way to find out what works best for you is trial and error. That means making and using your soap, and deciding what you like about it and what you don't; then tweaking your formula from there. As an example, I can tolerate...

Does anyone measure your batch in kilograms?

I do the same. My scale only weighs to the nearest gram, or nearest tenth of an ounce; so grams are far more accurate for me. It's also easier to scale a recipe up or down in percentages using grams than it is in ounces for me. I too still use teaspoons and tablespoons for certain things such...

    Riceland Rice Bran Oil

I've never used rice bran oil before, but at those prices I figured; "Why not?". Even with shipping, a gallon only cost $12.60. Even if I decide I don't like it for soaping I can use it in cooking. :)

    Well- screwed that up!!

I think it's beautiful. Even though I know it's not what you intended; I love the color! Pinks never come out that bright and vibrant in my soaps. :(

    Liquid soap trace question

Susie and DeeAnna, thank you so much for your insight and advice. It seemed that I NEVER reached a stable emulsion until bam!--taffy. I thought I must be doing something wrong, or that in my inexperience I just missed trace and went way past it...all the way to paste. :) It's good to know that...

    Check Me?

I'm a Ls newbie myself, but that's what my paste looked like except it was more taffy-like than mashed potato like. When it was diluted, it came out a crystal clear amber color. I'm guessing that if it doesn't zap, it will be fine; and it will dilute a clear amber color. :)

    Liquid soap trace question

I've only made two batches of liquid soap, so I'm definitely new to the process. The first batch was made using Irishlass's glycerin liquid soap method adapted to the oils I had on hand, and the second was her creamy cocoa shea again adapted to use what I had on hand. (I had a pound of mango...

How did you endure the wait ???

Wyvern, as you probably already know, anytime you alter a soap formula you'll need to recalculate it using a lye calculator. :) In fact, you should run any formula you find online or elsewhere through a calculator just to make sure it's accurate and that there isn't a typo in it. :) There are...

    Tiramisu scent?

I have used this one: http://fssoapworks.com/?product=tiramisu and I like it. No acceleration, but it discolors brown. I used it to do an "in the pot" swirl by scenting part of the batter and leaving part unscented, after 5 months it's holding.

Need a HUGE favor from any experienced soaper .....

I hand stir all of mine. I use a whisk. I feel like it gives me better control of trace than a stick blender. The batter looks the same.

    Dirty guy finds soap

Welcome to the forum! It's a small world, I'm in St. Petersburg. :)

Do you "hate" any oil in particular?

For me, it's soy. I will cook with soybean oil however. Every soap I've ever made with soy; and it's only been a few, have developed DOS. Now this was plain old liquid soybean oil. I've read that the fully hydrogenated soy (soy wax) is a completely different animal; but I have never used...

Hello from Florida... the land of sweat and fire ants!

I think that's probably the best description of fire ants EVER! They're nearly impossible to get rid of as well. I gave up trying to eradicate them years ago. Now I just try to avoid them, and keep the Benadryl handy. :) Welcome from Florida's west coast! We'll take the rain here anytime...

    Pomace Oil

Pomace for me as well. :) I can't justify the higher cost of EVOO or "Pure" olive oil for use in soap. I tend to save those for food/cooking. :) I haven't had any problems with the color. My standard soap formula comes out a creamy/light beige color. Part of that IS the olive oil...
