    Browsing soap pics

Wow! I love the sunset colors on that one.

    Not the color I expected...

Yeah, I've seen micas morph before but never a pigment. I want to make another batch to see what happens. Well, more like I HAVE to make another batch. My tiny little devil chihuahua thing escaped his cage while I was at work, jumped onto the counter and knocked over all of my curing soaps...

    Not the color I expected...

Can pigments not known to change do so because of the FO or is it something I should be concerned about? And thank you!

    Not the color I expected...

Forgot to say, I used the rest of the blue in a second batch the next day, same recipe, and it remained blue. The only differences are that I used a little more pigment to less soap for a darker blue and a lavender EO.

    Not the color I expected...

I used ultramarine blue pigment from Brambleberry. I did use a spoon in the green oxide before but it had just a light powder coating on the spoon. Not really enough to change the blue color. The soap glop was a pretty blue but started to turn green by the time I was pouring. I used olive oil...

    Not the color I expected...

...but pretty anyways! I wanted a light blue base with a dark pink swirl but the soap decided that green would match the scent better. I think the soap knows best! I used Sleeping Angels from BB. It moved fast so I had to glop the pink and push it down into the "blue" base for an in the pot...

Will this affect the final soap?

Thanks Seven. I'm thinking the scale may have been off. My hubby says he just changed the batteries in the scale. I'll rebatch it just in case b

Will this affect the final soap?

Hmmm, thanks again Susie. I don't have any way of testing the pH so I guess I'll just zap test it after I unmold, cut and cure. If I do rebatch, does it have to be immediately or can I wait a couple of weeks? (Sorry, lots of questions.)

Will this affect the final soap?

Thanks, Susie. There's a layer of brown liquid on the top right now (in a Pringles can). I haven't had that happen yet but this is only the 6th or so batch I've ever done. It's just the first time I forgot to add the ingredients at the right time.

Will this affect the final soap?

I made my second batch of shampoo bars today (Lindy's shampoo bar) with a little tweak since I ran out of castor oil mid pour. (I reformulated and ran through soapcalc.) I added sodium lactate, rather, I forgot to, and added after blending to a light trace. I finished stick blending a bit...

    Boozy Chocolate

Oh wow, chocolate beer! Never heard of that before. Sounds like it smells amazing. Looks edible too. Love rich dark chocolate!

    A chocolate bar

I couldn't wait. They are the color of dark chocolate now so I cut a bar into quarters for test pieces. The inside is still butter yellow. It lathers beautifully, LOADS of lather! Wonder what they'll be like a couple of months from now.

    Benefits of cure

I have a hard time waiting for full cure but I do notice a difference in bars I use a couple of weeks after making and the last bars of the batch that are usually around 3-5 months old, depending on the batch. That's saying something since I am very new to soap making.

    A chocolate bar

Thanks! I had a sample from Brambleberry. I'm not sure how much it was but I used the 6x6 silicone mold (also from Brambleberry) and I had two bottles that were slightly less than half filled. I'm assuming the slightly swirly look is because I stirred the fragrance oil in by hand after a medium...

    A chocolate bar

(Hi there. First post here!) I've been making soaps sporadically now for about a year. I've tried a hot process Castile bar, a salt bar, a shampoo bar (Lindy's recipe from this site, LOVE IT!), and now my first soap with a fragrance oil. I used Rich Dark Chocolate and I live the way it's gone...
