    1st SMF Soap Challenge- July

Believe me, not_ally, it's not all that pretty. I like the gremlin soap better! I will post it though. Right now I'm out of town celebrating my nephews graduation into the Marines!

    1st SMF Soap Challenge- July

Well, mine is done and in the mold. I panicked because I wasn't sure what I wanted to use and went with my first 3 favorite colors, purple, blue and pink. I figured I'd use pastels and see how they work out. Turns out, not as well as I had hoped. After I poured and swirled it separated a little...

    1st SMF Soap Challenge- July

Aaahhhh! I haven't even attempted to make my first soap yet. I thought when I entered I'd have plenty of time for multiple tries, but I guess life had other plans. I'm finally free tomorrow so that will be my one and only shot. I'm really enjoying catching up and seeing all the entries!!!!

    1st SMF Soap Challenge- July

Wow! It's, ummm... beautiful, not_ally! Seriously though, I do love the colors you picked. I'm expecting similar results since I've never done more than 3 colors at a time, and that was a nightmare! I have a folder full of color ideas on Pinterest that just sit and look pretty, but I've been to...

The soap gremlins know where I live now,

Thank you! They've darkened up quite a bit, especially the gremlin soap. Here's what they look like now, about a week later.

    1st SMF Soap Challenge- July

Oooh! I'll just watch this time but this sounds like fun! I'm a plain soaper, just the simple stuff, but I'd like to try some new stuff eventually.

The soap gremlins know where I live now,

Thanks! It makes me feel better about the gremlin soap, even if that's not what I was going for. I think you're right, FlybyStardancer. He washed his hands with another one of my soaps I keep at the sink. In any case, I've used this as an excuse to order more vanilla FO from different suppliers.

The soap gremlins know where I live now,

I completely understand the child-like man comment. You've described him perfectly. Here are the pictures of the soaps. The first one is NG french vanilla (original) and was fine. It didn't accelerate or act up in any way. The second one is the gremlin soap. I used NG vanilla lace and pearls...

The soap gremlins know where I live now,

And I think their leader is my husband! Last night I experienced my first soap fail. If it could go wrong, it did. I had everything prepared, or so I thought, and proceeded to start my non accelerating FO vanilla soap. This is a loaf for a relative that I special ordered a fragrance for. I had...

    Usage rates confuse me

    Thank you, not_ally!

    Usage rates confuse me

I was just going by what I saw on their website. Where do you find the IFRA info?

    Usage rates confuse me

I was browsing Fragrance Buddy and saw that some of the usage rates are way up there. I saw as much as 48% (category 9, soaps, etc.) and 100% ( category 6, mouthwash), among other wildly confusing percentages. On other sites, usage rates are around 5% or less. Am I looking at the chart wrong?

    Easy recipe with farm ingredients

The Internet is a funny thing, you really can't tell the tone of the conversation until something goes south. For the record, there was nothing offensive in any of the beginning posts offering help and knowledge gathered over YEARS of experience. Yes, introducing yourself would help, but this...

    Ready to give up

Are you talking about ash? I get it on almost all of my bars with my favorite recipes. I've seen posts that mention spraying with alcohol and covering the soap with plastic wrap for the first couple of days to try and prevent it from forming. Can you post a picture? I'm sure someone with much...

Scent similar to BB winter white?

Thank you! I'll look into it.

Scent similar to BB winter white?

Well, I got a response from BB that makes me sad. They've discontinued it because it wasn't a good seller. My best bet is to try and replicate it from the scent notes but I'm not too confident I'll be able to. I've never blended scents before and know I will never be able to make it exactly as...

    First Rainbow

Wow! I love the colors swirled together like that. I've been wanting a multi color swirl in the center of the soap but I've only been brave enough to try 3 colors. I can't wait to see this cut either.

Scent similar to BB winter white?

Found it! I found a blog post on soap queen that describes it as notes of spearmint, peppermint and water mint with chocolate and hot cocoa and a soft dry down of vetiver and West Indian vanilla. That's what I want!!! ETA, any suggestions on what would be similar?

Scent similar to BB winter white?

I don't think it was a dupe. It had a cool or minty vanilla musk fragrance to it. I have no idea if it had any or all of those notes, can't remember the description, but to me that's what it smells of. It does turn the soap dark so I'm assuming I'm correct on the vanilla but there was something...
