    50/50 split water

I'm a self employed massage therapist, so just trying to make good use of the spare time I have between customers :)

    Mango butter

Anyone else had problems with using mango butter in soap? I've used it twice now and both times it ruined the batch. The first time it didn't melt properly during the heat transfer stage (I soap at room temp) and although I tried to stick blend the lumps out, I couldn't because it reached trace...

    50/50 split water

Thank you both, thats great :) Just one thing lionprincess, what is sb? Its probably something very obvious but I can't figure it out

    50/50 split water

If I use goats milk or something similar in place of water, would splitting it 50/50 mean I don't have to freeze the milk. The reason I'm asking is because I soap at work and I don't have a freezer there. I considered freezing it at home and taking the ice cubes to work but suspect that they'll...

    Burnt Oatmeal

Thanks Teresa, that's reassuring. I'm not planning to sell them, as I'm still just experimenting but I 'm hoping they'll be ok to give as gifts to family. Don't think I'll do it again though, just stick to my usual oatmeal recipe for now on, as the smell really was unpleasant. Unless it turns...

    Burnt Oatmeal

I decided to try out something new with my oatmeal soap today, I infused the water with oatmeal and then strained off the oats (I think I read about it somewhere) and used it for the lye / water stage. But it gave off a horrible burnt oats smell and afterwards I noticed there was a strange brown...

    Bath Bombs in Depth

This is a really interesting thread, thanks Stephen :) I'm a complete novice with bathbombs and my attempts so far are in definite need of improvement, so this is very helpful

    Himalayan salts

Ah thanks Dorymae, its probably a mix of different sized grains then. I do have a coffee grinder so I'll give it a go

    Himalayan salts

Hmm, it looks kinda fine to me (finer than the sea salt) but I don't know. Just had a look at the suppliers info and it doesn't say specifically but says grain size is 0.8 -3.15mm if that means anything to anyone?

    Himalayan salts

Anyone else had issues with them not dissolving quick enough? I just had a bath with them and the bottom of the bath felt gritty as I moved around, not very pleasant. I've never noticed this with the sea salt soaks I've made, so I'm assuming it is the himalayan salts, but so many people seem to...

    Yiang Yiang stinks!

I do a blend of Ylang Ylang and lavender which I absolutely love but I'm guessing you'd loathe lol I've not tried III, so not sure how it differs from the regular type but in any case I generally use small amounts of it, as it can be overpowering. So have a play around with blends and see if...

    Does Sugar Really Increase Bubbles?

How interesting, I hadn't heard of this before. Think I'm going to have to try it myself now :) How much sugar would you add?

    EO's and Eo's

I'm an Aromatherapist and for me there are 2 types of EO's. The expensive ones usually are better quality and I will only use these for massage treatments. Then there are the ones that I have gotten from soaping suppliers. At first I was horrified that they had sold me something so dilute but on...

Good quality Oil, EO and FO in UK

True, the oils which I'm not happy with for Aromatherapy reasons are ideal for practicing with soaps and candles ;)

Good quality Oil, EO and FO in UK

I'm just about to make an order from mother natures goodies myself to see what they are like but I'm pretty dubious because they are so much cheaper than everywhere else, so it seems a bit too good to be true

Good quality Oil, EO and FO in UK

I get mine from Penny Price, its good quality as you'd expect from the Price family (her mums an Aromatherapist too) but they are a bit expensive compared to the other suppliers. I'm an Aromatherapist so I have to get the best quality oils for massage treatments and unfortunately most of the...

    Coconut oil max

Ok, thanks for your replies everyone :) I will drop the salt soap idea and just stick to my usual base recipe, which actually works pretty well :)

    Coconut oil max

I'm not selling yet, I am working on my base recipe and intend to get my assessments done sometime in the middle of NEXT year (I began soap making a couple of years ago, so I wouldn't exactly call that rushing into something). I am asking (yes admittedly naive) questions in the hope of learning...

    Coconut oil max

I also have olive oil, avocado oil and cocoa butter in there. I wouldn't usually have it over 20% either but as we (in the UK) are only allowed to have 8 variations of the same basic recipe, it would mean I wouldn't be able to include my salt or castille soaps, so I was hoping to find a way of...
