Today's venture: Updates with cut pics

Sure I'll tell you. I used Tradewind's basic 8 to color (SoapMakerMan suggested them and let me tell you they're great). You gotta get everything ready to go before you start. So I used 3 colors, mixed them according to the color chart; put them in their respective swirling bowls. Get your...

    Coloring HP Soap?

This was an CPHP done with BB's labcolors. I'm soon switching to Tradewinds basic 8 though. I get nice vibrant colors.

Newbie's first batch, and a question.

I agree with the above posts .. the only addition I have is that you don't want to add it at a super light trace .. it'll all sink to the bottom .. and you don't want to do it when it's a super heavy trace .. it's a b*%^ to mix in then. I always do it somewhere in between. Don't ask me how I...

    Patchouli E.O.

I've noticed it can discolor between a dark ivory to a light/medium tan (depending on which supplier you use). LorAnn's patch does a pretty ivory color. Hate patch, but it made a beautiful color.

Soap ingredients for Cystic Acne, and ecema??

My girls have (or shall I say had) exema .. I do close to a pure castille ... about 80 - 85% OO, 10 - 15% CO, and 5 or so % castor. I do it at an 8% lye discount (5 if you're gonna use the dairy mixture described below). If you do it HP, add some calendula extract when it cools a little and...

    Grapefruit Seed Extract amount

From what I could gather from the studies that I cross referenced on ProQuest and my other library resources, none of the positive findings on GSE were peer reviewed. I didn't check every single one, but the vast majority. I'm really into doing things naturally as well, and I wish that some of...

    Grapefruit Seed Extract amount

Look, I don't want to start the whole natural preservatives arguement but empirical research points to the fact that GSE, on its own, is not effective as a preservative. Here's what I've found, you can form your own opinions from it, but make sure you put due consideration into what you use as...

    Did you profit this year?

I'm a finance major .. so I know a bit .. not very experienced... one of the main reasons that small businesses fail is because they don't completely understand their costs. When you sell a bar of soap you should know exactly how much the shea butter in that bar cost, how much the colorant...

    Prayer, Thoughts, and Thanks

I feel horrible for all those poor people and critters. I hope they catch the responsible party so s/he can be brought to justice. Such a senseless act

Soap ingredients for Cystic Acne, and ecema??

If you do HP then you can use some herbs too .. I swear by yarrow, tea tree, and green tea extract.

    rebatching oat or herb soaps

I'm far from an HP expert but would venture to say yes. Any time you cook an herb it loses some of its beneficial properties, otherwise, why would fresh herbs be so much more beneficial than dried herbs. I would imagine that the heat would have an effect; however, I don't know how serious.

    Pink Sugar FO?

don't think that it's like 12 year old girl fruity .. my mom loooooves it ... I like it but I"m more into clean and green scents personally

    Pink Sugar FO?

I think soapsupplies.net has a non discoloring Pink Sugar

    Grapefruit Seed Extract amount

GSE is not an FDA approved preservative; in fact there are doubts about whether its antioxidants are strong enough to even prevent rancidity of oils, let alone prevent the growth of mold/bacteria/fungus. If you're going to do a sugar scrub I highly recommend using a more commercial preservative...

    My 2nd & 3rd CP Batches

Very nice !! You'll get the swirls down to a fine science don't worry about it .... yours look 100 times better than my first swirl ... great job.

    You know you're a soaper...

That's so true.... that was initially my excuse ... now that I have a whole pantry full of FO/EO's I can't really "justify" the cost savings. My husband just walks by the pantry and rolls his eyes.

    books

The Everything Soapmaking Book is one of my favorites. It goes through HP and CP, liquid and bar. I think it's a good starting point if you're interested in learning how to soap.
