    Homemade laundry bar soap...

I wouldn't try it ... while I'd love to .. I'm not putting my LG in jeopardy .. I love that thing ... you don't even have to use detergent.

How do you make the top look like frosting?

I do the same as above .. wait until it's at a thick trace ... almost about to gel .. for this bar I used a skewer because I wanted a thinner fudge look but have done in my log mold with a butter knife or spatula to make a frosting looking top.

    Palm Oil Controversy

You can get organic sustainable palm oil and that's pretty good. Lard and tallow have many of the properties of palm (creaminess and hardness). Just google for sustainable palm and you'll find a source.

    Accurate temperature

When you add you lye to your GM, it's just trial and error ... you have to add the lye before everything melts, but you can't do it too fast or you'll get the smelly orange mess. I started doing everything room temp ... lye and oils ...Paul's method .. and I'm never going back. I just add the...

    Newbie here from Northern Virginia

Don't be so harsh on yourself .. you did a good job .. nice creamy looking bar with consistent color ... you did a heck of a lot better than I did on my first batch. Great job .. and I completely agree with Mike about the temp ... I don't even bother anymore ... both my lye and oils are at room...

    creamy lather index

A creamy lather is much more dense;I just busted out a recipe that was a 40 and I'd equate the consistency of the lather to kind of a shaving cream .. it's just thicker and richer than your normal lather. Some good ingredients to add to help boost creaminess are yogurt, milk products, coconut...

    French Lavender

I was nervous because in the colors in the mold were a bit bright .. using 4 ml's for each swirl works out well
