    Lotion Bars

Awwww thanks Bettacreek! You made my day! I actually use the little tubs to mold my lotion bars, I just pour it right in and let it cool, and snap the lid on. They easily pop out to use. They hold 2 oz of whatever I put in there. The bad part is, it limits the shape of the bar to the shape...

    Lotion Bars

I put my lotion bars in little plastic tubs with snap on lids...I got them at the Dollar Tree for a dollar a package. They had round ones and rectangle ones. Your heart shaped ones are beautiful!

successful CP soap! (with pics of process)

My first soaps were made with Roebic Crystal Drain stuff (100% sodium hydroxide) from Lowes. It was pricey but it worked great for me. I order from Essential Depo now....It's much cheaper.

    armour lard..

Sorry to hear of your problems with the lard. I've used that brand on several occasions (cheap and at Walmart) and have never had any issues with a smell. I've used it at 30% or so in several recipes. I melt it low and slow, keeping the temp below 120 degrees. I read somewhere if lard goes...

Essential Depot food grade or tech grade lye

I order from them and get the tech grade--I wipe stuff down with a dryer sheet and it seems to reduce static. Hope this helps!

    Wood soap mold plans?

I'm pretty sure Lowes had some plans on their website--I had printed some off at one point last year. http://www.lowescreativeideas.com/idea- ... _0811.aspx I think this is the link. Hope it helps

What does the ricinoleic family lone member do for soap?

I so agree Irishlass--it really is all about the balance of oils when using castor. I recently made a batch with 10% and for some reason I thought it might be sticky or soft---I was very suprised, I made the soap that morning, it went through gel, and I was able to cut it that night. It's one...

What does the ricinoleic family lone member do for soap?

I use at least 5% castor in all of my soaps. I think it does boost lather. IMO it's a nice and yet inexpensive addition to my bars. I've used as much as 10% and have had good results. It might be worth your while to do a small test batch including castor to see how you like it.

    Coconut Milk

I would think it stands to reason that it would increase the SF amount due to the fats in CC milk. 18%--wow I couldn't answer as to what that would do in a regular batch of soap. I did use Coconut milk in a salt soap--SF at 20%-Coconut oil, a little castor and OO and used fine grain sea salt...

    Coconut Milk

I figured it got thick because the milk has fats---I don't have the jug to check what the fat content is. When I use the CC milk I try to keep my SF at 6 or 7% but I have done 8% and had it work out fine. It sometimes does make for an initially softer soap depending on the oils that I use, but...

    Coconut Milk

I've made soap using coconut milk as 100% as the liquid lots of times. I freeze the required amount and add the lye to the frozen coconut milk slowly, stirring well. It always turns to a thick white sludge. Before I add this to the oils, I give it a buzz with the SB, it seems to reliquify it...

    Beeswax & Castille?

A soaper friend of mine gave me a recipe for what she called a 'castille'. It had 75% OO, Coconut oil, and 2% beeswax. I made it last summer and honestly wasn't too impressed after a couple of months cure. I came across a bar of it a couple of weeks ago, tried it again and I was amazed at how...

    Peak's Black Canyon F.O.

I've soaped with it. Don't count on swirls, great scent, but discolors like crazy.
