    I just made soap!

Eek. I was afraid of that but chose to ignore it. If it was a false trace what does that entail? Will it just take a lot longer to cure or is it more likely to separate or something? I knew I wanted to include the baby food as part of it but wasn't sure how to incorporate it into the math...

    I tried to make carbonara

I had to read a number of comments to be sure you weren't making an alliteration about a soaping mistake. lol! All tips filed away for whenever carbonara finds its way here, too. :)

    I just made soap!

I used the recipe Susie recommended: 65% lard 15% coconut 15% olive 5% castor + 3% lemongrass EO and some carrot baby food I used full liquid, which was frozen goat milk. I slowly stirred the lye into the goat milk with the pitcher in an ice bath. Didn't have any problems with it overheating...

EO or FO tint as the coloring in a swirl

    Thanks! Those examples are great!

EO or FO tint as the coloring in a swirl

Yes and yes. I'm curious if a pale yellow/beige swirl would look more elegant or like a mistake and if the scent would be strong or seriously weakened. And I ask because I've never done it before, if a dark vanilla swirl would hold in place where you put it or would it drift into the unscented...

EO or FO tint as the coloring in a swirl

Is it okay to use an EO or FO as coloring in a swirl or would that dilute the fragrance too much? Is it necessary to scent all parts of the soap and not half of it?

    Pacifica perfume smell-alikes

    Awesome! Thank you!

    Pacifica perfume smell-alikes

Is anyone familiar with Pacifica perfumes? Years ago I sniffed the samples in a Whole Foods store and I can still remember loving them. Never could bring myself to splurge on any but maybe if there are some similar FOs or EO recipes out there I could use the excuse. Specifically my favorite at...

Why so many products that do the same thing?

Would it have to do with the reactions needed at different stages of its manufacture? If it was one of my creations it'd be "a little of this, too much of that, something to make it better, repeat...and it works in the end so better not change the recipe!" lol.

    total noob questions

I have another question and I'm not sure if I should make a new post or not. Kinda think it's probably a dumb one that I could look up if I tried hard enough. So if nobody answers... guess I knew better. lol. What's the difference between and body bar and a shampoo bar and can you make either...

    total noob questions

:shock:What?! 8 months+ to cure?! I'm feeling pretty naive now, lol. I've seen 10 weeks pretty often, but... Is that just for castile? Is there a chart somewhere that estimates how long different kinds of soaps cure? I'm glad your soap is looking good so far.

    total noob questions

Wow, thanks for all the replies! That helped a lot! Sorry i didn't put the link. Here it is. It's a Soap Queen article but I said Brambleberry... Different? Found it when looking up what "DOS" means, lol. I couldn't tell if they just wanted to promote BB olive oil or not. Yep, Great Value is...

    total noob questions

What is a salt bar for? What kind of sugar do you add to help bubbles? What exactly does it do and when do you add it? I read BB's article on using different brands of olive oil after buying a big Great Value bottle. Has anyone used that kind and had issues?

    Repurpose Rose scent soap

No experience here but I thought a "grenadine" scent might work, too. Rose + cherry and maybe a little almond. Or strawberry.

    what happens when...?

Thanks for your replies. I guess too much liquid extends the drying or curing time by a lot? And milk I know is risky.. I can make cheese with the normal milk but the frozen was withheld because of deworming. Didn't want to consume or sell it yet it's a precious thing to throw away.

To gel or not to gel?

What causes gelling and what steps would you take to cause it?

    what happens when...?

Maybe this is a silly question but what happens when you use too much water? What about when that liquid is milk and you use too much of that? What about using evaporated milk? I dewormed one of my milking goats and saved her milk for soap, but it's taking over my freezer. There's no way...

What should I grow in my garden?

Ooh, I don't mean to hi-jack this thread and I'm partly on topic but, umm, my first ever calendula flower opened yesterday! When do you pick them for drying? Does the age of the bloom matter? Also, what does cucumber juice do in soap? Edit: I looked up about harvesting calendula. Pick "at...

    MgSO4, ascorbic acid, and lye?

I tried it but it didn't help noticeably. I tried rubbing it in with just enough warm water to dissolve the crystals and then leaving it. It was messy and troublesome and left behind a white film that was a little bit itchy. It would work better as a scrub in the shower. Used it in the bath but...

    Well, shucks. Thanks though. :)
