    Patchouli E.O.

Surf girl, that soap is GORGEOUS!!! Holy cow! Those swirls are perfect. As to the original questions, I use a very dark patch and have not had trouble with it discoloring my soap. Like Surf Girl, though, I use less than 0.5 oz per pound of oils because the patch is blended with other...

    cinnamon leaf

I've used cassia bark, cassia leave, cinnamon leaf, and cinnamon bark EO's in cold and hot process soaps, and I have never had any complaints of irritation. That being said, the maximum amount of cinnamon or cassia EO that I've used in a 4.5 lb batch of soap is probably 0.5 oz. I've never made...

How to do soap with sculpted / textured tops???

I'm also interested in this. My husband loves the "cake frosting" look (as he calls it). I assume you bring the CP soap to a thick trace before pouring it, but I haven't been brave enough to try it yet.

Best places to buy essential oils?

I use Liberty's lavender (see link in previous comment). I think they grow and distill it themselves, and it is my favorite lavender EO. I also love New Directions Aromatics - they give great descriptions of their products, what they blend well with, where they come from, and they also have...

Go for it! I'm glad you like it :-) It would look lovely on a rosemary/mint. Oooh, now I want to make a rosemary mint...

    chlorophyll capsules to color

Thanks y'all! OMG I am in soaping heaven right now. My kids are occupied with snacks and an art project, and I am on my second batch of soap for the day. The best part about it, though, is that I'm making one of my spring soaps that I haven't made since, well, last spring, and I forgot how...

Soap or Potion Pot this weekend - what's in it? (Feb 6 - 8)

I'm excited for my soaping weekend. Actually, I've kind of already gotten a head start on it :-) This morning I made a lavender and oat soap and right now I'm making an insect repellent soap with lots of yummy lemongrass - it smells so good!!!! Over the weekend I'm going to attempt my...

What about y'all? What's your dream soap setup?

Okay - I posted this in another thread, but the thought of my dream soap room made me so so happy, I had to post here, where it belongs. Wow, my dream Saponifactory... I'm seeing myself in a warm wooden room, looking out a (large) window over my vast wooden deck nestled into a green forest...

    Hot Process/ Cold Process Recipes

Hi Irissa, I've used many of my cold process recipes to make hot process soaps without changing a thing, and they've turned out great. I am no expert on this, though, and some may have better information about adjusting water (maybe adding a little more for HP?) to make the HP soap a little...

    chlorophyll capsules to color

Thanks y'all! I've been branching out and trying colors lately, and it's so much fun! Trying something new is tricky business for me, though - I'm always torn between the fear of ruining a batch of soap and dying of curiosity to see how it would turn out. The curiosity usually wins out ;-)

    Show me your SAPONIFACTORY!

Awwww! Thank you Starduster! I love your quote, btw. My nickname in Kindergarten was Smiley :-) Wow, my dream Saponifactory... I'm seeing myself in a warm wooden room, looking out a (large) window over my vast wooden deck nestled into a green forest (any natural setting can be inserted...

    chlorophyll capsules to color

Hi y'all! Here's another of my coloring experiments. I got a bottle of DeSouza's chlorophyll capsules from my local health food store, hoping I could use them as a natural green colorant. They're awesome! Here are a couple of pictures of the results. These may be a problem, though, for...

    tumeric to color orange/cedar HP

Hey y'all, I was messing around with turmeric the other day to see how it looked in hot process soap to create a golden yellow color. It worked pretty well! I suspended 1 tsp turmeric in 2 tsp avocado oil for a 4.5 lb batch, added after the cook (and after turning the crock pot off), and...
