    Funnel swirl tutorial

Yay! This is great!!! Thank you, thank you - I can't wait to try this!

Newbie's first batch, and a question.

I usually add things like herbs, oats, honey, etc at trace in CP and after the cook in HP. I'm only just starting to play with colors, so I don't know the best way to deal with that. IrishLass, I like the idea of using the baby oatmeal! I'm with you - the regular oats are often too...

Yet More CP Soap Pictures ;)

Yum. The top one looks like fudge, and the bottom one does look like pound cake. They are beautiful! And I am so impressed with how you managed to turn the loss of the swirl into something that is equally beautiful with its creative topping. Great job!

    Zebra!

WOW!!!! I LOVE the zebra soap! Man, my list of "things to try" is growing longer by the day. Those swirls are amazing. Wow. Thanks for posting the link to the tutorial, and thanks for the tutorial LomondSoap!

    lavendar chammomille soap adventure

Those are lovely! I had a really skunky soap recently that I thought I was going to ha,ve to toss, but after a couple of weeks the skunky smell totally disappeared and all that was left was the intended lavender scent. Beeswax often has a pretty strong smell, and sometimes warm oats can give...

Oh No! Just realised what I did!

What a perfect picture surfgirl, for a beautiful cooling soap! I never realized you could add pureed cucumber to soap. I love this place! I learn so much here!

    Did you profit this year?

No kidding! When I first started out, I set prices based solely on cost of ingredients. I was pretty proud of myself for figuring out exactly how much each bar of soap cost me to make, at least in terms of ingredients. I did not, however, figure in labor or packaging. And as my business...

    rebatching oat or herb soaps

Hey y'all, I recently made an HP soap where I added oats before the cook, and it stank up the whole house because the oats cooked in the soap. At least I'm guessing that's why it stank. Anyway, I was wondering if its okay to rebatch soaps that have oats or dried herbs in them. Does the...

What do you use to stir your lye solution? Wood, silcone...

Yikes! I never knew about the glass/Pyrex issue. I have a 4 qt, THICK pyrex beaker that I've been using for about a year now, but I guess I should consider using something else. Thank you for the warning, carebear!

    chlorophyll capsules to color

Ooh, yes, I've read about spirulina but I've never tried it. Please let us know how it turns out, and post pics if you can!

Thanks y'all! It was fun :-) Thanks for the Whole Foods tip on the powdered GM, and yes Tanya, I'm Andrea :-)

it worked! HP milk & honey, with volcano...

After the kids went to bed last night, I ran to my kitchen and started working on the hot process milk & honey bar that I had been waiting ALL DAY to make. I've made the same recipe a dozen times as cold process (only with buttermilk instead of goat milk) and wanted to see how it would work hot...

How do you cut your soaps - with pic

Yes, that tank is mighty nice, but like you, I think I'll need to be in business a few more years before I can justify buying it. I like that it cuts multiple bars at once - just think of the time we'd save - but I also like the meditative practice of pushing the log, cutting, and admiring the...

    My weekend soaps :)

Wow! Those are beautiful! I love the chunky soaps like that. I've never tried them, mostly because I've only now started experimenting with color, but I'm going to have to try that one day! And way to go, Grandma! Wow, it makes me tired just THINKING about doing that with three grandkids...

Hello! I'm excited to be here!

Welcome Marmalade :-) It looks like the first two etsy soaps you posted are cold process (CP), and the third one is hot process (HP). I have no experience with melt and pour, so I can't speak with any intelligence on that subject, but if you want to make CP or HP soap you will be working...

How do you cut your soaps - with pic

Hi everyone, I'm psyching myself up to try my liquid-milk-in-HP soaping tonight, so I'm doing all sorts of stuff to keep my restless self busy until the kids go to bed and I can really concentrate. I'm cutting soaps, and while I love my soap cutter (lovingly made by my husband), I'm curious...

Soap or Potion Pot this weekend - what's in it? (Feb 6 - 8)

Good luck! A soap party sounds like so much fun!

Just made my first batch and a question...

Hi Sara, I use my spatula to try to scrape as much out of the bowl and off the stick blender into the mold as I possibly can to minimize cleanup. Then I take old rags and wipe everything down until there's really not a trace of any soap left. I set the rags aside for a couple of days to...
