    Laundry soap

Unfortunately I missed the post about grating fresh cos I didn't log in for a week or so :( I saw it last week and started grating but it was too late. No I don't live in the US we only have one thrift store and it's not very big. So yeah it's all very painful and I'm not sure how many loads...

    Laundry soap

Unfortunately I don't have a food processor and I'm trying to grate it by hand and it's taking forever :( I am wondering if all this effort is even worth it. I've grated two blocks and it doesn't seen to have made very much. I can only do a little at a time. I didn't have a chance to do it...

    Feeling Discouraged

I've been soaping 18 months and I screwed up my valentines day soap too... Batches only started going wrong when I started selling! Go figure.

    Laundry soap

Well I made it at 0% and it's hard as a rock and now in the cupboard to cure. In the meantime I'll have to grab another bottle of liquid laundry detergent. Well it's a start. I bought the Borax and washing powder stuff months ago!

Ok thanks all! 0% it is.

    Laundry soap

What would you consider to be a long cure? I'll have to go buy another liquid detergent for now I guess. I still haven't found time to make this soap.

    Flakes in lye solution

It's one of those plastic drink jugs from the supermarket. 2L I think. The ones with the lid which I currently can't find. Never been used for anything but lye so there shouldn't be any fat in there to make soap. Goodness I would never stir lye with a stick blender! I don't even stir...

    Flakes in lye solution

Lsg I stirred a ton. Didn't help. I tried to strain with a coffee filter and the filter collapsed into the jug...fail. I will have to secure it better next time or use a tea strainer instead.

    Flakes in lye solution

I decided it was time to masterbatch my lye so I made a 50/50 solution. However it has flakes throughout. I'm a bit concerned about that, is it ok to use? Normally when I make it as I go it fully dissolves with hardly any flakiness.

    Sensitive Skin

My hubby sells my soap to a couple of people he works with that have ultra sensitive skin and they love it. I started making soap to make shampoo bars because I couldn't tolerate commercial shampoos. Instant success. Scalp loves it. Hair is thicker too. Now however I am having major skin...

    Laundry soap

It shouldn't in theory but how accurate is a standard kitchen scale? I'm very accurate with measuring but the scale only goes to the nearest gram.

    Laundry soap

I'm finally getting around to making my 100% CO soap to make laundry soap. I also want to cut some to use as stain sticks. I know it's common to have 0% superfat but I'm wondering if I should use perhaps 2% for two reasons: One, because the stain stick is held in my hands to rub directly on...

What soapy thing have you done today?

    Do you swap?

I wanted the soap for the hubby. I've only traded once ever and it was the other vendors idea. I got a card which I gave to a friend. She got two soaps. Every time I see something I like that I can't afford I'm hesitant to ask to swap. First time I get up the nerve and the woman laughs in my...

    Free to any home

Good heavens no. I have enough gremlins to deal with.

    Do you swap?

Another soap-maker comes up to you at a market and looks at your soap, then asks you if you would consider a trade. What do you say? The backstory: a little while ago I was the other soapmaker and I was checking out another vendor's soaps. I don't make the same kind of soap and was interested...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made breast milk soap for someone. And there was still extra milk so I made lotion bars with them. My first milk soap. All went well, it looks good. We were a bit surprised that it is orange though.

    Gift baskets

Well they are taking up space so I think I will pull them apart now. It would be nice to keep the pumpkin pie fragrances together but I don't want to spend any money on real baskets. Not unless I can find them for 50c anyway. The don't look quite as bad as the crappy iPhone photo seems...

    Gift baskets

I had smaller packages. Twin packs of soap tied with raffia. Set of three minibars. A nice round men's soap with packaging. It was odd - almost everyone was diving into the salt bars and artists bars. The artists bar which was previously ignored almost sold out. I've since sold three gift...
