SMF May Challenge- Interpretation, not Imitation

Cool soaps anyhow Steve, very nice. Gosh it's hard trying to get the right colours isn't it? At least we have usable soap when all's said and done.

    Salty Mariner from BB

Thanks for the feedback all, I think I'll split it, colour then add scent and stir and pour like crazy and see how I go. I won't add anything else to it because (at this stage anyway) I love the scent just as it is. McMom - I order Brambleberry FOs and other BB products through their...

How much Activated Charcoal to use?

Ah well, there you go. I stick blended mine as I was worried about it not mixing through properly. That middle soap is awesome, I love it. So that's cinnamon? I have yet to master the mica line. Love your confetti bits.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thanks, I missed that! Having a look now :)

To saponify or not with this oil

I probably wouldn't use it in soap unless it's only my own family using it - ie. I wouldn't give it to friends in case it goes rancid on them, that would just be embarrassing.

    Salty Mariner from BB

I asked for a sample of this with my last order from Aussie Soap and added it to 100 grams of my last batch. Wow! I've been trying for months to come up with a nice salty, briny, sea-type mix of essential oils but couldn't seem to get it right. Bugger it, I thought, I'll just try a FO. I...

    Hello there

Welcome bloemie - I've tried selling my soap but I'm beginning to think it's just too much hard work. That doesn't bother me though because it's a fun hobby to have, and I get to give my soap as gifts and people appreciate it. At least they say they do ;)

You are too kind penelope!! Well done on your entry, you absolutely nailed those colours, and I'm impressed with your red. Especially considering all the trouble you've had lately with colours, you really came through. I'm super impressed. Dibbles - well done you! - you captured the elegance...

    Dry crumbled soap

Hi Jsoaps21, I have had this happen a lot and I've so far nailed it down to a few things - It is more likely to happen if my soap batter is thin (thin trace), if I soap cool (less than 40 degrees celcius), and if the temperature of my room is quite cool (maybe this causes the batter to cool down...

SMF May Challenge- Interpretation, not Imitation

Here's my lovely "fail" - smells great (sandalwood FO), feels good in the hand, looks purty. But for the challenge I was going for ... equal layers, the right colours (purple is off), a calm feathery effect ... I have a long way to go with my skills but it was sure fun to do. I had some trouble...

Recipe Suggestions ? Want to try something new.

Thanks, I've been using 30% lye concentration for most recipes, but I might down the water a bit as you say. It does seem to make a difference. I use 32% for my bastille and that works really well.

Thanks dibbles and penelopejane for the AO suggestions, I will try them.

    What goes here

Oh ... should the section be called something else then, because the first thing that came to my mind was - where can I get what I want and what's on sale and where ... etc?

Recipe Suggestions ? Want to try something new.

I've only used avocado oil once, in a facial soap which is curing now and is super soft - like mould it in your hands soft. I was a bit dubious about using it again. Does anyone have a particular recipe to share, as I have quite a bit of AO left??
