    Gift baskets

And THAT'S why I refer people out :). Making baskets is one skill I simply do not possess. I am always amazed at what talented people can do with a basket and a bunch of product. My basket making skill stops at a popcorn bowl with free movie passes and microwave popcorn, LOL.

    Gift baskets

I've never done well with pre-made baskets, either. People want you to change out "this" scent for that "scent" and whatnot. This year I teamed up with a local gift basket company. They made me a "demo basket" for free and I put their flyers in my customer bags. I tell people they can take...

    Need to Vent!

I agree with waiting until the show is over to say anything. You can't really prove you've lost revenue to Scentsy or Avon and you will still make money today. If they hand you a review form to hand out, politely -but strongly- make your point known that you would not have attended had you...

    Exactly.

    help with sweet almond oil

You can call Mike at Soaper's Choice and ask. They are very helpful about their products.

Who is your Shea Butter Source?

I also use Butter EZ in lip balms - works like a charm.

    Keeping recipe notes

I use Soapmaker software and I copy all my notes from the paper recipe to the "notes" section of the recipe on the software. On SM, I can trace back each ingredient to it's source and batch # - which is wonderful. I don't know what I'd do without it. You can even store a picture of the soap with...

    First batch is disappointing :/

I think that "add at trace" might be another misnomer left over from the days of hand-mixing soap. You'd want to make sure your emulsion is stable before adding scents. But with the SB, I don't that's applicable anymore. I do it my way because when I've added finicky scents to traced batter, I...

    Is this Recipe Ok?

    That's almost my recipe! :) I don't have problems with 25% palm.

#1 Craft Fair for the Holiday...

The "handcrafted only" needs to kick it up, too. I did very well this past weekend at our local "big fair", but just looking around at all the Pintrest "artists" made me a little cranky. If I see one more tatted scarf, or wire ribbon wreath or Duncan Hines cupcake, I may lose it. And let's not...

    First batch is disappointing :/

What I've found *helps* - not fixes - is to put my scent in with the base oils and SB the heck out of it before adding the lye solution. In my mind, this gets the scent mixed in well, even if it's going to speed up on me. If I have a new FO or one I KNOW will try to seize, I use more water than...

Vermont girls rock. Glad you enjoyed yourself!

    lye beads and static

Dryer sheets. I wipe the container I'm pouring it into and all up and down the lye container itself. I even wipe my scale with those things. Works like a charm.

thesage.com has these jumbo bands. Maybe they will work? https://www.thesage.com/catalog/fullcat.html#section50

    formulating lotion/dry weather

I love jojoba in lotion. But glycerin is also nice in drier climates. Sadly, I'm in Texas now and I think it's more humid here than in New England :)

Regulation POLICE!! And what they ACTUALLY will do!

Exactly! There so many soapers who I'd love to call the FDA about, but I won't because it's usually in regards to claims -hopefully not enough of a transgression to get someone hurt- and I don't want more regulations. The last one they tried to pass would have forced us to pay a registration fee...

    Could this be lye pockets?

You don't have to stick your tongue right on it (though that is what I do). You can wet your finger, rub it around on the soap, then touch your finger to your tongue. If it's zappy - you'll know it, but it's not the same as if you stuck your tongue right into a bowl of lye water :)

    Could this be lye pockets?

To ME, it looks like maybe the honey didn't incorporate and settled to the bottom. Your last pic just looks like air bubbles.

need your help re lye pockets

Are you sure that's lye and not some additive that didn't get fully incorporated?
